Position Summary
The
Electrical Technician
is responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance on all electrical and mechanical systems within an operating utility‑scale solar power plant. This role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance by conducting inspections, troubleshooting electrical issues, executing repairs, and supporting daily operational activities. The Electrical Technician monitors plant availability, prioritizes maintenance tasks to maximize generation, and maintains accurate documentation through the digital maintenance management system. The role also supports site safety, contractor oversight, and contributes to a strong, proactive O\&M team culture.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Maintenance \& Troubleshooting
- Test, maintain, and troubleshoot solar PV electrical equipment, including inverters, transformers, switchgear, and collection systems.
- Perform current and voltage readings, electrical diagnostics, and component-level repairs.
- Conduct maintenance on trackers, inverters, and balance‑of‑plant electrical systems.
- Support substation and switchyard maintenance activities as required.
Safety \& Compliance
- Perform all work in accordance with site operating procedures, NEC requirements, and electrical safety standards.
- Complete Lock‑Out‑Tag‑Out (LOTO), Job Safety Analyses (JSA), Permit to Work, and all required safety documentation.
- Identify safety risks and gaps in standards; escalate and correct as needed.
- Ensure site access, HSE compliance, security, and inspections follow established protocols.
Operations Support
- Use monitoring tools to track energy output and respond to alarms, emergencies, and abnormal operating conditions.
- Execute daily work plans based on prioritized tasks from planning and scheduling.
- Monitor contractor activities and ensure work quality and adherence to safety requirements.
- Maintain accountability for site tools, equipment, and vehicles.
Documentation \& Reporting
- Record all maintenance activities—scheduled and unscheduled—within the digital maintenance management system.
- Perform data collection and prepare reports to meet operational and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with technical presentations and provide guidance to the O\&M team.
Team \& Site Support
- Collaborate with site leadership and peers to maintain a high‑performance O\&M culture.
- Support other sites as needed, including travel and nontraditional work hours.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts for maintenance processes and procedures.
Qualifications \& Experience
Required
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum
2 years of experience
as a maintenance electrician (commercial, industrial, or power generation).
- Competency in electrical safety, NEC understanding, and power plant safety protocols.
- Ability to complete JHA/LOTO/Tailboard forms independently.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools, computers/tablets, and digital work order systems.
- Valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong communication skills.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergent issues.
Preferred
- Associate degree in Engineering or related field.
- NABCEP certification or Electrical License (Journeyman or Master).
- Experience in renewable energy, preferably utility‑scale solar.
- Experience with substation maintenance or power plant operations.
Certifications
- First Aid/CPR/AED
- OSHA certification
