Job Description Summary
The Journeyman Electrician performs complicated and routine maintenance tasks on electrical systems including, but not limited to, the installation, maintenance and preventative maintenance, remodeling, repair, servicing, and operation to the College’s electrical systems. The Journeyman Electrician will assemble, install, and repair electrical circuitry, switchgear, distribution systems, and related components. This position will generate, respond to, and close out work orders, install, maintain, and repair electrical components, and coordinate with supervisory staff regarding work plans, materials, and inspections. This position will be required to work at any of the College’s campuses as needed or as directed.
Minimum Qualifications
One (1) year of advanced study or training past the High School diploma or GED equivalency.
Three (3) years related electrical experience.
Valid Texas Driver License with ability to be insurable by Del Mar College.
Electrician I – Pay Grade 716
Journeyman Electrician’s License
AND
up to three (3) years of related full-time experience as a licensed Journeyman Electrician.
Electrician II – Pay Grade 717
Journeyman Electrician’s License
AND
over three (3) years of related full-time experience as a licensed Journeyman Electrician.
Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Must have job knowledge, skills and abilities commensurate with that of a Journeyman Electrician License issued by the State of Texas.
Current State of Texas Journeyman Electrician’s License.
Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local codes, and ability to incorporate them into design and work.
Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, methods and practices used by the electrical trade.
Knowledge and ability to install, operate, and maintain building electrical systems and associated equipment.
Knowledge of electrical applications for high voltage and low voltage electrical systems.
Knowledge of occupational and safety hazards associated with the electrical trade, PPE, and processes to prevent accidents.
Knowledge, skill, and ability to work on electrical systems ranging from 120 volts to 480 volts.
Skilled at installing, repairing, and maintaining all types of electrical system equipment and components.
Skilled at computing electrical circuit loads and power requirements.
Ability to read and understand electrical blueprints, schematics, and shop drawings.
Ability to generate electrical shop drawings and specifications.
Ability to install entire electrical systems including conduit and wiring.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve electrical wiring/circuit issues.
Ability to climb and work from ladders.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Physical ability to perform moderately heavy physical work which includes lifting up to 50 pounds, and crawling, and work outdoors during inclement weather.
Preferred Qualifications
Related electrician experience with commercial construction projects.
Related electrician experience with with commercial or institutional maintenance work.

Job Duties
Job Duty
Provide prompt skilled Journeyman level craftsmanship and performance in the installation, maintenance, evaluation, and repair of electrical and related systems.
Make electrical installations consistent with the NEC, specifications, and local electrical codes.
Run conduit, pull wire; install and repair electrical circuits and perform electrical work related to air conditioning and refrigeration.
Provide access for future maintenance and minimize waste of materials.
Install control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels.
Connect power cables to equipment.
Job Duty
Generate, respond to, and close out work orders using the College’s work order system.
Perform service calls and work orders submitted by faculty, staff, and departments within the College.
Job Duty
Test continuity of electrical circuits to ensure compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments.
Observe functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustment, relocation, or replacement.
Perform preventative or corrective maintenance tasks and detailed inspections of electrical systems.
Troubleshoot electrical system problems following detailed operational and maintenance procedures; perform installation and maintenance of existing electrical systems, new installations/construction, and special events.
Survey buildings and perform maintenance on equipment in a multi-trade team working environment, assist outside the electrical trade as needed or directed.
Job Duty
Prepare plans/sketches/shop drawings showing location of wiring and equipment and/or follow shop drawings, diagrams, or blueprints ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and/or flooring.
Repair faulty equipment or systems.
Job Duty
May assist other Physical Facilities Shops when needed or as directed.
Perform related duties as needed or as assigned.
