Overview

We are seeking a Mid-Level Network Engineer to support a large-scale network modernization effort in McLean, VA. This role will focus on designing, implementing, and optimizing a mid-tier enterprise network environment, with a strong emphasis on Juniper switching and network access control (Cisco ISE) to help align with CMMC compliance requirements. This is a hands-on role in a federal-adjacent, software-driven environment, supporting research and development initiatives tied to government entities.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and support enterprise network infrastructure with a focus on switching and overall network architecture
• Lead efforts to optimize and complete migration to Juniper switching environments (currently \~80% complete)
• Support the development and enforcement of CMMC-aligned network access controls, leveraging Cisco ISE
• Configure and maintain network security tools, including Palo Alto firewalls
• Collaborate with cross-functional cybersecurity and engineering teams to ensure compliance and performance
• Troubleshoot and resolve network performance, connectivity, and configuration issues
• Contribute to ongoing network transformation and modernization initiatives

Required Qualifications

• 5\+ years of experience in network engineering
• Strong hands-on expertise with:
• Juniper switching and Juniper MIST (60–65% focus – top priority)
• Cisco ISE (network access control) (\~30% focus)
• Palo Alto firewalls
• Experience working in mid-level enterprise network environments
• Deep understanding of network design, routing, switching, and security concepts

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting federal or government-related environments
• Familiarity with CMMC compliance frameworks
• Background in network modernization or transformation projects
• Exposure to software-driven or R\&D environments
