Position Summary: The Director of Information Technology is responsible for the leadership, support, and continuous improvement of the company’s IT environment across corporate and field operations nationwide. This role oversees infrastructure, cybersecurity, networking, business applications, end-user support, and point-of-sale systems to ensure reliable and secure operations across a business with three to four dozen locations.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of IT will lead a small internal IT team and external vendors while serving as a strategic and operational partner to business leadership. The ideal candidate is a practical, service-oriented technology leader who is equally comfortable driving long-term improvements and handling day-to-day operational issues in a retail, hospitality, or multi-site operating environment.

This is a remote role with ability to travel to gyms on a periodic basis: OR, CA, CO, DFW – TX, IL, NY, PA, VA/MD/DC Metro

Job Responsibilities

IT Operations \& Support

  • Oversee daily IT operations across all corporate and gym locations, including networking, internet connectivity, POS systems, endpoints, telecommunications, and cloud services.
  • Ensure stable, secure, and reliable technology operations with minimal business disruption.
  • Oversee IT help desk and support functions to deliver responsive service to field and corporate team members nationwide.
  • Establish and maintain IT standards, policies, procedures, and documentation.

Infrastructure, Systems \& Security

  • Manage and support the company’s infrastructure environment, including Microsoft 365, cloud platforms, networking, endpoint management, backups, and cybersecurity tools.
  • Maintain security controls and best practices related to user access, device management, data protection, disaster recovery, and incident response.
  • Coordinate system maintenance, upgrades, patching, and lifecycle planning for hardware and software.

Business Applications \& Projects

  • Partner with business leaders to identify operational needs and implement practical technology solutions that improve efficiency, reporting, and user experience.
  • Support and optimize core business systems, including POS, CRM, HRIS, accounting/ERP, and business intelligence platforms.
  • Lead technology projects including system implementations, upgrades, location openings, integrations, and vendor transitions.
  • Support technology integration activities related to acquisitions or expansion initiatives.

Vendor \& Financial Management

  • Manage relationships with technology vendors, telecommunications providers, and software partners.
  • Lead vendor selection, contract negotiations, and service-level management.
  • Develop and manage annual IT operating and capital budgets.
  • Oversee hardware/software procurement, licensing, inventory tracking, and asset management.

Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a small IT team while establishing clear priorities, accountability, and expectations.
  • Develop KPIs and reporting metrics for system performance, support responsiveness, and project delivery.
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders in a 2000\+ team member organization, from part timers on the front line to the board.

Job Qualifications

  • 10\+ years of progressive IT experience across infrastructure, systems administration, networking, cybersecurity, and business applications.
  • 5\+ years of IT leadership experience managing internal staff and external vendors.
  • Experience supporting multi-location retail, hospitality, restaurant, fitness, healthcare, franchise, or similarly distributed operating environments.
  • Experience managing remote teams.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365, cloud infrastructure, networking, endpoint management, cybersecurity fundamentals, and enterprise applications.
  • Experience supporting POS systems and location-based operational technologies.
  • Hands on participant, energized by doing as well as planning, directing, and leading.
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or related field.

  • Full-time, exempt position.
  • Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and 401(k) with company match, subject to eligibility requirements.
  • Compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and market factors. Base salary of $125,000-$175,000 USD.
