Job Description
Responsibilities:
• Media Preparation:
Prepare sterile media using autoclaves, media claves, Sterilize in Place (SIP) reactors and other sterilization technologies.
• Dispensing:
Weigh, sterilize, and dispense media into various containers (plates, flasks, bottles) using automated liquid handlers and peristaltic pumps, following SOPs and job aids.
• Aseptic Techniques:
Apply sterile and aseptic handling techniques throughout all processes.
• Quality Control:
Perform quality checks on prepared media, including streaking plates, measuring pH, and inspecting for contamination via microscopy.
• Inventory Management:
Monitor inventory levels and order necessary chemicals and consumables.
• Troubleshooting:
Identify, flag, and assist in troubleshooting process deviations and contamination events.
• Process Improvement:
Participate in projects aimed at enhancing laboratory operations and efficiency – these include better tracking of lab metrics, more efficient data capture and visualization and assisting in meeting mid- and long-term operational efficiency goals for the lab.
Experiences and Skills Required:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field is required.
- Experience with aseptic techniques (e.g., pipetting sterile media, pouring agar plates, working in biosafety cabinets or laminar flow hoods) is preferred
- Proficiency with MS Excel; experience with statistical analysis tools (e.g., JMP) preferred.
- Self-motivated, able to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
