Purpose
The Senior Director, Data \& Analytics leads PANTHERx’s full data layer: engineering, analytics, business intelligence, and governance. This role demands a hands-on leader with deep technical expertise in data engineering, specifically on Azure and a Databricks-native, medallion-architecture platform. A strategic mindset for driving data analytics initiatives that deliver measurable business impact is also required.
The Senior Director, Data \& Analytics oversees the design and execution of scalable data pipelines, ensures data integrity and governance, and leads cross-functional analytics projects that support pharmacy operations, clinical programs, partner data solutions, and strategic decision-making. This position is a critical bridge between engineering, analytics, external partners, and business stakeholders, ensuring our data infrastructure and insights are aligned with enterprise goals and partner expectations.
Responsibilities
- Leads data engineers and analytics professionals, fostering a culture of respect, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Sets and enforces the technical architecture for the Databricks platform, including medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold), Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, and structured streaming ingress patterns.
- Owns the delivery of the Enterprise Data Warehouse, including scalable data pipelines, data models, and ETL processes.
- Drives analytics initiatives by partnering with data scientists, analysts, and business leaders to scope, prioritize, and deliver high-impact data projects.
- Collaborates cross-functionally with product owners, pharmacists, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into actionable data solutions and insights.
- Ensures platform reliability and performance, including optimization of Azure services and Databricks environments for cost-efficiency and scalability.
- Establishes and enforces data governance, quality standards, and compliance protocols (e.g., HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC2) across engineering and analytics workflows.
- Establishes quality and observability standards across the data platform, including pipeline monitoring, anomaly detection, and data reliability reporting.
- Maintains comprehensive documentation of data infrastructure, analytics workflows, and operational standards.
- Champions a data-driven culture, enabling self-service analytics and empowering stakeholders with trusted, timely insights.
Required Qualifications
- 10\+ years of progressive experience in data engineering, analytics, or data platform leadership, with at least 3 years owning a data organization at a director or equivalent level.
- Deep, hands-on expertise with Databricks, including medallion architecture, Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, and Lakehouse patterns in production environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading analytics engineering functions, not just data engineering or BI in isolation; understands and can articulate the semantic layer as a distinct discipline.
- Strong proficiency in SQL, PySpark, and/or Python; sufficient to evaluate architecture decisions and code quality without being hands-on daily.
- Proven experience with Azure cloud services, especially Azure Event Hubs, Azure Databricks, and Azure Data Lake.
- Demonstrated ability to build and develop senior engineering talent, including manager-level hiring and career development.
- Executive presence and communication skills to represent the data function at the executive leadership level and present cost transformation, platform health, and delivery metrics to senior executives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Healthcare, specialty pharmacy, or regulated industry experience, with exposure to clinical or operational data environments.
- Experience with data contract standards (ODCS or equivalent) and pipeline observability platforms (Monte Carlo, Monte Carlo Data, or similar).
- Familiarity with enterprise data catalog tooling (Atlan, Collibra, Alation, or equivalent) and data product marketplace design.
- Experience partnering with data governance and QA functions to operationalize quality standards in pipeline validation.
- Exposure to AI/ML platform integration: understanding how data engineering and analytics engineering decisions affect model input quality.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Work Environment
This position works in a home office and professional office environment. When in-office this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, and communications via MS Teams.
