LEAP Math Coach
GENERAL OVERVIEW:
The LEAP Coach works under the immediate supervision of the LEAP Director to provide on-site and virtual coaching to support LEAP candidates throughout the state of NM as they pursue alternative licensure through CES. This position requires state-wide travel for 1:1 coaching supports, provide intensive grading of graduate-level coursework in a timely manner with substantive feedback, will support lesson planning and delivery of K-12 engaging lessons, content coaching for regional and online groups of teachers in specific areas, collaborating with school mentors and principals across settings and at various sites, will attend monthly LEAP team meetings, and provide input and supportive direction for team decisions in collaboration with the full team. The LEAP Math Coach is expected to adhere to all CES Board Policies and Administrative Regulations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Master's Degree
- Level III Licensure or National Boards Teaching Certification
- Highly Qualified in Math or strong Math background instructionally, expertise, knowledge and extensive training/preparation.
- 5-7 Years of Math instruction or more, preferably in New Mexico
- Experience and the disposition to supportively mentor teachers and coach teachers
- Presentation delivery experience and the ability to facilitate the learning of adults in large groups, often using engaging and high-yield strategies
PREFERED BACKGROUND:
A LEAP Math Coach will prepare lessons and teach across the content area Prek-12 to support new teacher candidates holistically in their first-year teaching. A coach must have experience and feel comfortable delivering engaging professional development to many adults and working on a collaborative team to do so dynamically. Presentations are often 2-7 hours in length, and many require digital skills (Zoom, Teams, the use of projection and media) and the coach is expected to engage new teachers in virtual professional learning. The preferred background is subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of CES but expertise in several content areas that contribute to the diversity of the LEAP team is valuable.
- Preferred dual certification and special education
- Preferred National Board Certification
- Multiple years of classroom teaching experience
- Experience in designing and delivering face-to-face and virtual presentations
- Knowledge of NMPED policies, procedure
- Community leader with high energy for 2–7-hour PD sessions in person
KNOWLEDGE/ TECHNICAL SKILLS/ ABILITIES:
- Skills, ability, and comfort to teach/coach in K-12 classrooms statewide
- Knowledge of teaching pedagogy that includes special education, culturally responsive practices, reading acquisition, and universal design for learning - among others
- A growth-mindset and the belief that all students can learn and deserve a high-quality teacher that has been well prepared to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Stage-presence for delivering PD and facilitating workshops for large groups
- Innate ability to be reflective, a self-starter, a team player, and an efficient communicator
- A drive to reimagine New Mexico’s public education system in the interest of community
Equipment Used in Performing Job (including but not limited to):
Microsoft Office Suite and CES specific software
Copier and scanner
Conducting virtual PD with multiple platforms such as Zoom/Google/Teams
Navigating an online platform for grading and candidate communication: Canvas, Teams
Physical Requirements/ Work Environment (including job hazards):
A standard in-person environment is required. Position requires long hours of standing, driving, sitting and walking intermittently throughout the day. Periods of time spent on a computer using and developing word documents, PPT’s and contributing to team Excel documentation. Requires close visual acuity to detail, unpacking boxes and assembling items ordered as needed. Must be able to lift 30 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
Essential Job Tasks:
All tasks are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, and computer security guidelines. Tasks are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the organization. Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the CES management team.
LEAP coaches support LEAP teachers to/with:
- Feeling empowered and valued in their classrooms
- Completing curriculum, conducting themselves academically, submission of work
- Delivery of classroom instruction, supporting classroom management
- Navigating the teaching profession and supporting lifelong learning
- Grading monthly assignments with substantive feedback provided to candidates
- Presenting professional development to large groups
Modeling instruction in the LEAP candidate’s classroom if needed, debriefing observations, sharing feedback, ensuring the support and adhering to LEAP timelines, ensuring candidates
Pay: $83,457\.00 - $92,012\.00 per year
