Job Description

At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections, where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

Doing now what patients need next. The customer area Near Patient Care (NPC) unites Roche’s Point of Care and Diabetes Care portfolios. Our ambition is to improve disease management by enabling critical answers and personalized care, closer to the people we serve. With our passion we bring testing closer to patients and empower people to better monitor their own health and help healthcare professionals make faster, more confident decisions closer to the patient.

Within NPC Operations, we are globally accountable for the end-to-end production of solutions for continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), blood glucose monitoring (BGM), and insulin delivery (IDS), as well as Point-of-Care (POC) products. The most relevant internal manufacturing sites are Mannheim in Germany and Indianapolis in the USA.

Your new team

As Manufacturing Science and Technology in NPC Operations, we bridge the gap between development and manufacturing. With around 200 colleagues across Mannheim, Indianapolis, and Rotkreuz, we lead technology strategy, product design industrialization, and collaboration with external partners throughout the product lifecycle.

As a project-based organization, we enable scalable product designs ready for mass production, ensure robust processes and equipment for excellent yields, and ensure scalable QC processes. Partnering with external networks, we secure competitive manufacturing costs and reliable production.

We are committed to building a global, diverse and inclusive team, bringing together various perspectives and skills to foster innovation and create a great place to work for all.

Your new role

As Head of Process Engineering - Machinery (m/f/d), you will lead a local interdisciplinary team of engineers and designers and shape a work environment that fosters innovation through inclusion and diverse perspectives. In this position, you will significantly influence the technology strategy and drive the development of complex special machinery for the assembly of medical devices. Your focus is on industrialization: you translate innovative R\&D concepts into robust, scalable equipment designs ready for global mass production.

Your main tasks

  • Leading, motivating, and purposeful development of the "Process Engineering - Machinery" team, consisting of engineers and designers. Fostering a diverse, inclusive, and globally oriented work environment that strengthens innovation and team spirit, as well as the further development of individual and technical competencies.
  • Significant contribution to and implementation of the technology strategy for modern, highly automated special machinery for the assembly of medical devices.
  • Development of equipment concepts that ensure excellent production results and scalable QC processes while securing competitive manufacturing costs.
  • Interface management between R\&D and production. Transferring new product designs into robust, scalable equipment technology ready for mass production (Design for Manufacturing/Assembly).
  • Selection, evaluation, and close partnership with external special machine builders and technology suppliers throughout the entire development and construction process (incl. FAT/SAT).
  • Responsibility for equipment design in compliance with the strict regulatory requirements of medical technology (e.g., GMP, ISO 13485, MDR, FDA) and support for the necessary qualification and validation phases (DQ, IQ, OQ, PQ).
  • Monitoring new market trends in automation, robotics, and assembly technologies for the continuous modernization of the equipment landscape and increase in process efficiency.

Who You Are

  • Completed technical or scientific university degree, ideally with a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or similar.
  • Several years of relevant professional experience in the development, design, and industrial scaling of complex assembly and automation systems (preferably for high-volume production).
  • Demonstrable experience in a highly regulated environment (e.g., GMP, ISO 13485, FDA, MDR) and confident handling of the qualification of production equipment (DQ, IQ, OQ, PQ).
  • Pronounced know-how in "Design for Manufacturing/Assembly" (DfM/DfA) for the successful and cost-efficient transfer of R\&D concepts into mass production readiness.
  • Several years of experience in disciplinary and technical leadership of engineering teams. Strong focus on motivation, coaching, and fostering an inclusive and integrative team culture.
  • Proven ability to build bridges in a global, project-oriented organization and to act as a central interface between R\&D, Operations, and Quality.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey complex technical matters understandably and to bring about decisions across different departments and hierarchy levels.
