The business has raised funding from notable investors including Mark Cuban and Upfront Ventures, appeared on Shark Tank, generated approximately $7M in revenue last year, and is pacing toward approximately $12M this year. The company is expanding through direct-to-consumer growth and distribution partnerships across senior living, estate planning, death care, and retail channels.

Role Overview

This Head of Engineering role is a player-coach leadership position for a small, distributed engineering organization building a consumer AI product where output quality is the end product. The platform combines recordings, speech processing, LLMs, structured content generation, and a simple emotional user experience to preserve family stories, voices, and legacy. This leader will partner closely with product and executive leadership to improve engineering execution, raise the technical bar, and shape how AI is integrated throughout the product experience.

What You'll Do

• Lead a small distributed engineering team, including developers, QA, and technical collaborators, while improving execution, velocity, consistency, and engineering operating rhythms.
• Own technical direction across a proprietary platform that captures recordings, transforms them into structured content, and generates high-quality written stories and physical book experiences.
• Drive architecture and product engineering decisions across customer-facing interfaces, story recording and viewing experiences, media consumption, AI workflows, and content generation systems.
• Stay close to the work as a hands-on technical leader when needed, helping the team reason through complex architecture, system design, and implementation tradeoffs.
• Partner with product leadership to make the experience simple and intuitive for customers while supporting sophisticated AI and content workflows behind the scenes.

Who You Are

• An engineering leader with experience managing small, high-performing teams and operating as a player-coach in an early-stage or growth-stage environment.
• Comfortable working on consumer products where usability, emotional resonance, content quality, and reliability directly shape the customer experience.
• Technically strong enough to guide architecture across AI-native products, media platforms, speech or language workflows, content systems, and distributed product engineering teams.
• Excited by a product where AI is core to the experience, not an add-on, and where generated output must feel coherent, natural, personal, and true to the user.
• Interested in shaping the engineering culture, technical roadmap, and product infrastructure of a real business with meaningful revenue traction and expanding distribution channels.

Compensation

• Salary: $200,000 - $250,000 per year
