Job Description
The Teen Tutor supports youth academic success by providing homework assistance, tutoring, and academic encouragement in a safe, supportive, and engaging environment. This role works with individual students and small groups to reinforce classroom learning, build study skills, and promote positive attitudes toward education. The Teen Tutor serves as a positive role model, helping teens develop confidence, responsibility, and problem-solving skills while supporting the goals of the Club’s education and career development programs.

- Provide effective guidance and role modeling to members and help members resolve problems and conflicts.
- Contribute to ensuring that facilities, equipment, and supplies are maintained.
- Contribute to creating a fun and safe environment for youth.
- Build, maintain, cultivate relationships with key stakeholders (e.g., guardians, parents, teachers, school administration) –which includes, but is not limited to, calling/corresponding with/meeting with the aforementioned stakeholders.
- Assist with overall club programs or special events when needed.
- Ensure a productive work environment by working with all staff as a team member.
- Contribute to creating a Club environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes.
- Contribute to programs, activities and services that prepare youth for success.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Preferred GPA 3\.0\+ along with one letter of recommendation. (Not from family)
Qualifications:
- 16-18 years old
- Strong knowledge of core academic subjects with an emphasis on literacy (math, science, reading, etc.)
- Patient, reliable, and enthusiastic about education
- Previous tutoring or teaching experience preferred not required
- Ability to commit to scheduled sessions consistently
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with youth, families, and staff
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple activities, maintain required documentation, and follow program schedules
- Proficiency in using basic office technology and program-related tools or systems (e.g., email, attendance tracking systems, learning platforms)
- Ability to understand and comply with organizational policies, safety procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local laws, including child safety and mandated reporting requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with children and/or youth in an educational, recreational, or youth development setting
- Relevant certifications or training (e.g., CPR/First Aid, Mandated Reporter training, youth development or education-related credentials), if applicable
- Experience working in a structured, youth-serving environment that requires adherence to policies, safety standards, and program guidelines
- Ability to effectively engage with youth, families, and staff in a fast-paced, interactive setting
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
- Ability to use a computer, phone, and standard office equipment
Work Environment
- Work is performed in a club-style environment, including open floor plans, recreational areas, and outdoor activity spaces.
- The role may involve a dynamic setting with multiple priorities, deadlines, interruptions, and regular collaboration with others.
