Piper Companies is seeking a
Cloud Engineer
to support a cloud modernization and infrastructure automation initiative for a growing technology organization. This is a
fully remote, 4–5 month contract opportunity
focused on designing, deploying, and automating cloud environments while supporting CI/CD processes and Infrastructure as Code best practices. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with
AWS, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and scripting
to drive cloud infrastructure deployments, automation, and operational improvements.
Responsibilities of the Cloud Engineer:
- Design, deploy, and maintain cloud infrastructure within AWS environments.
- Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform.
- Build, enhance, and support CI/CD pipelines for application and infrastructure deployments.
- Automate cloud operations, provisioning, monitoring, and maintenance processes.
- Develop scripts using Python, Bash, or PowerShell to streamline engineering and operational workflows.
- Collaborate with DevOps, Software Engineering, and Infrastructure teams to implement cloud best practices.
- Troubleshoot deployment, infrastructure, and automation issues across cloud environments.
- Support cloud security, compliance, scalability, and performance initiatives.
- Document cloud architecture, deployment procedures, and operational processes.
- Participate in cloud migration, modernization, and optimization efforts.
Required Qualifications of the Cloud Engineer:
- 3\+ years of Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Infrastructure Engineering experience.
- Hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Strong experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code methodologies.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms.
- Experience with scripting languages including Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Knowledge of cloud networking, security, and automation best practices.
- Experience troubleshooting cloud-based applications and infrastructure.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills within remote team environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- AWS Certifications (Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, DevOps Engineer, etc.).
- Experience supporting cloud migrations and modernization projects.
- Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Splunk, or Prometheus.
- Experience working within Agile development environments.
