Health & Wellness Instructional Designer & Lead Educator

UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) is the lifelong learning arm of the university. The division maintains the most diverse portfolio on the campus, with programs spanning pre-college, professional continuing education, workforce development, international academic and cultural exchange, and training services for corporate and agency partners. As a global leader in continuing education, CPE serves learners regionally, nationally and globally, and posts more than 55K enrollments annually making it the third largest UC Extension by enrollment. Beyond its community-facing role, CPE serves as the internal hub for online education in support of other academic units on the campus.

Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of Instructor Services, the Content/Development Instructor will collaborate with UC Davis support team members to develop an online learning experience that will be delivered as the UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education Professional Program in Health and Wellness Coaching (HWC) This is a “work for hire” assignment focused on creating the course product. The timeframe will be established as part of the planning for development and will be agreed to by all parties. The Development/Content Instructor will be the principal subject matter expert for this offering. The primary responsibility of the Development/Content Instructor will be to

create the curricula matrix for the entire professional program and to review and provide guidance on the overall UC Davis CPE Proposal including the product types, courses, prerequisites, target market, and course design.

se. This position is a Development/Content Instructor only with the possibility of a Teaching Instructor position at a future date. This role is explicitly collaborative: program design decisions, learning architecture, assessment strategy in collaboration with a Learning Experience Designer (LxD), who is responsible for instructional quality, alignment with learning outcomes, and adherence to UC Davis instructional standards.

The target audience for this UC Davis CPE professional program in Health and Wellness Coaching is Health Professionals and those interested in coaching others to improve their overall health and wellness.

**Minimum Qualifications

:**

• Bachelor’s degree in health wellness, public health, nursing, allied health, exercise physiology, kinesiology, nutrition, health coaching, or adjacent field.
• 5-10 \+ years of professional experience in health and wellness coaching, healthcare delivery, health education, behavioral health, or a closely related field.
• Active certification as a National Board-Certified Health \& Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) through the National Board for Health \& Wellness Coaching (NBHWC)
• Knowledge of NBHWC coaching competencies and program-approval standards.
• Effective communication skills, including the ability to translate technical health and wellness coaching concepts into accessible and relevant learning experiences for healthcare professionals with varying levels of coaching experience. Demonstrated experience developing curricula, courses, or educational programs for adult or professional learners.

Demonstrated ability to work within a structured curriculum-development process, collaborate with instructional designers, program staff, subject-matter experts, and other partners, and reliably meet project milestones and deadlines.

**Preferred Qualifications

:**

• Master’s or higher degree in medicine, exercise physiology, health and wellness coaching, social work, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nutrition, or related fields.
• Additional relevant professional certification or coaching credential.
• Experience developing education or training for physicians, clinicians, or other healthcare professionals.
• Experience applying health and wellness coaching in healthcare, private-practice, organizational, or employee-wellness settings.
• Experience mentoring, supervising, or training health and wellness coaches.
• Evidenced-based practice and ongoing professional contributions to journals, research, national presentations, and leadership programs.
• Experience with developing applied, project-based, or experiential learning initiatives in professional or workforce education contexts.

**Appointment

:**

The CPE Instructor position is an exempt by-agreement appointment. The incumbent will be hired into the UC Davis payroll title of

Teacher-University Extension Contract YR

and will be subject to Federal and State Income Tax Withholdings.

**Compensation

:**

Compensation will be a set amount assigned based on the nature of the work, such as course development, instructional services, or coaching sessions.

**Benefits

:**

Position is not eligible for UC health \& welfare benefits. As a by-agreement instructor, the employment is considered “part-time” and will participate in the Defined Contribution Plan (the “DC Plan”) as a Safe Harbor† participant. By-Agreement instructors are automatically enrolled in the DC Plan per their eligible appointment. Safe Harbor participants contribute 7\.5% of their wages, on a pretax basis, in lieu of contributing to Social Security. Please review the
