Role Duration: 10 months, full-time
Work Day: 7:30am to 4:00pm, with weekly meeting on Mondays
Position Summary: Ashley Hall seeks a mission-aligned Middle School French Language Teacher, to begin in August 2026, who is responsible for teaching and promoting the language and cultures to our Middle School students. Through interactive activities and lessons that complement the learning that occurs in an IB Middle Years Programme classroom, the successful candidate promotes the linguistic, communicative, and cultural aspects of the language and motivates students to attain their individual potential as language learners. We seek a candidate who will actively pursue professional development opportunities to elevate the classroom experience and target language proficiency.
Reporting directly to the Director of the Middle School, the World Languages Department Chair, and collaborating closely with colleagues who teach French and or Spanish in grades 1-12, the Language Teacher ensures the continued growth of the discipline in a dynamic and authentic way.
Key Requirements: The World Languages Department at Ashley Hall uses a language acquisition model that incorporates Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), cultural studies, as well as natural connections to core content areas for students. The ideal candidate will be able to design and implement a language curriculum based on ACTFL standards and authentic resources, facilitate active learning by implementing Communicative Language Teaching techniques with a goal of 90% target language usage with students. Additionally, they should possess optimism, energy, and flexibility.
Additionally, applicants must have:
- a Master?s Degree in French or a related field
- advanced proficiency in French according to ACTFL proficiency guidelines
- 5 years of teaching experience
- Experience in independent schools
- Training, experience, or familiarity teaching in an International Baccalaureate school is ideal but not required
- The ability to design and implement an engaging and inquiry-based curriculum with a culturally responsive and inclusive lens guided by ACTFL standards, the World Language Department goals, and the school?s mission
- Implementation of goals set forth by the NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements for the Novice and Intermediate Learners
- Strong knowledge of and experience with teaching in the IB MYP curriculum framework are preferred but not required.
Since its founding in 1909, Ashley Hall has empowered young women to think critically, act ethically, and embrace their world with confidence. The School serves girls kindergarten through grade 12 (and is co-ed in its Early School, ages 2 to 5 years). Ashley Hall provides a dynamic education grounded in a Reggio approach in its early School and an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme in its Lower School. It is currently in the strategic phase of a Middle Years Programme candidacy with the intention of pursuing Diploma Programme candidacy thereafter.
