The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Clinical Behavioral Neuroscience is seeking candidates interested in establishing a pediatric MRI program of research using both 3T and 7T imaging to fill a position for an Assistant Professor, Academic Track with a focus on Research.

This is a 12-month, full-time appointment.

The ideal candidates will have expertise in human developmental cognitive neuroscience with extensive expertise in collecting, processing, and analyzing MRI data in sleeping infants and toddlers. They will also have experience developing safety protocols for ultra-high field MRI for the pediatric population and a strong track record of publishing high impact research.

The position will be based at the Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain (MIDB). Open to patients and the public, the MIDB houses educators and researchers from across the University as well as M Health Fairview clinicians, enabling side-by-side collaboration and providing a one-stop setting for patients and families that’s convenient, welcoming, and serene. The mission of the MIDB is to advance brain health from the earliest stages of development across the lifespan, supporting each person’s journey as a valued community member. Additional work including scanning and collaboration will be done at the UMN Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR).

Assignment and Duties

Research: The candidates will initially be funded as part of a large, multi-disciplinary research team who goal is to accelerate our understanding of brain development in autism. During this initial period of funding support, the Department experts that the candidate will devote 40-60% of their research efforts to ensuring the goals of the study are achieved. The candidate should work towards developing extramural funding support that will allow them to pursue additional areas of interest aligned with the mission of the MIDB.

Teaching/mentoring/outreach: The candidate is expected to serve as the main point of contact between the study team leadership and faculty collaborators at CMRR. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to mentor study team members including postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and staff members. Last, the candidate will be expected to attend and present at annual scientific meetings relevant to the project.

Service: The candidate is expected to monitor study milestones, manage data, track progress, and ensure compliance. Service to the division, department, Medical School, or MIDB will be limited and in scope with expectations for promotion.
