This role begins within the

Construction organization

, serving as the electrical authority during active builds, and transitions into

Operations

once facilities are commissioned. The SME ensures continuity between

design intent, construction quality, and operational performance

, helping deliver electrical systems built for long-term reliability—not just inspection approval.

Reporting initially to the

VP of Construction

, this role partners closely with

Operations, Facilities Engineering, and Site Leadership

to ensure electrical infrastructure supports safe, efficient, and highly reliable data center operations.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Engineering Leadership

  • Serve as the

electrical SME and owner’s representative

for assigned data center construction projects

  • Review and approve electrical designs, specifications, and drawings including:
  • Utility interconnections and substations
  • Medium- and low-voltage power distribution
  • UPS systems, generators, ATS/STS
  • Busway, PDUs, RPPs, grounding, and protection systems
  • Ensure systems meet

redundancy, uptime, scalability, and future expansion requirements

Construction Execution Support

  • Support project teams during

procurement, installation, and construction execution

  • Participate in

contractor selection, bid reviews, and scope evaluations

  • Review

submittals, RFIs, change orders, and field deviations

  • Provide technical guidance to resolve

construction challenges and mitigate project risks

Standards, Compliance \& Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards including

NEC, CEC, NFPA, IEEE, CSA, and local AHJ requirements

  • Enforce company electrical engineering standards and best practices
  • Identify potential

electrical reliability or capacity risks early

Commissioning \& Turnover

  • Partner with commissioning teams on

testing procedures and integrated systems validation

  • Confirm systems meet

design intent, reliability, and operational performance targets

  • Ensure accurate turnover documentation including

as-builts, O\&M manuals, and testing reports

  • Support training and knowledge transfer to operations teams

Operational Electrical Leadership

  • Serve as the

electrical SME for operational data center facilities

  • Support troubleshooting, maintenance strategies, and reliability improvements
  • Assist with

capacity planning, load growth analysis, and infrastructure upgrades

  • Lead or support

root-cause analysis of electrical incidents

Continuous Improvement

  • Refine electrical design standards based on

operational lessons learned

  • Provide technical input for

future data center development projects

  • Mentor facilities engineers and site teams on electrical systems best practices

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in

Electrical Engineering

or related field

  • 10\+ years of experience

supporting mission-critical or large-scale electrical infrastructure (data centers, industrial facilities, power infrastructure)

  • Experience supporting

both construction execution and facility operations

  • Strong knowledge of

critical power infrastructure and high-availability systems

  • Working knowledge of

U.S. and Canadian electrical codes and standards

  • Ability to

travel to active construction and operational sites

Preferred

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience supporting

hyperscale or AI data center environments

  • Experience bridging

construction and operations teams

  • Familiarity with

commissioning processes and reliability modeling

Key Competencies

  • End-to-end

electrical system lifecycle ownership
