Sound board op for musical theater productions

Rivertown Theaters for the Performing Arts is seeking experienced sound board operators for our musical theatre productions in Kenner, Louisiana.

Our productions typically use up to 28 wireless body microphones, prerecorded music, live vocal mixing, and a Behringer X32 digital mixing console. We produce approximately 10 musicals per year, with about 10 performances per production.

Responsibilities

• Operate the sound board during musical theatre performances
• Mix up to 28 wireless body microphones
• Insert and remove batteries from wireless microphone packs
• Conduct microphone checks before performances
• Operate prerecorded music and sound effects
• Monitor microphone levels, feedback, batteries, and overall sound quality
• Communicate with the stage manager and production team
• Complete pre-show sound checks and basic troubleshooting
• Maintain an organized and professional sound booth

Qualifications

• Previous experience operating sound for musical theatre, live performance, or similar events
• Familiarity with digital mixing consoles; experience with the Behringer X32 is preferred
• Ability to mix multiple wireless microphones during live performances
• Comfortable handling microphone packs, batteries, and pre-show mic checks
• Able to work independently and respond calmly to technical issues
• Reliable, punctual, and attentive throughout the performance
• Experience with prerecorded music playback is helpful

Training on our specific setup may be available for the right candidate, but applicants should have a solid understanding of live sound fundamentals.

Schedule and Compensation

• Approximately 10 productions per year
• Approximately 10 performances per production
• Each performance call is approximately 5 hours
• Pay: $25–$30 per hour, depending on experience
• Primarily Fri, Sat evenings and Sunday matinees
