ABOUT THE ROLE

The Steel Shop Manager oversees daily operations to ensure production schedules, quality standards, and workflow efficiency are consistently met. This role coordinates with internal teams, manages manpower, and supports a safe, productive work environment.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Oversee daily operations and production activities within the Steel Shops in alignment with production schedules.
  • Plan and adjust work schedules, start times, and manpower based on workload and budget requirements.
  • Coordinate with engineering, drafting, procurement, and shop leadership to ensure materials and production timelines are met.
  • Monitor production priorities, workflow, and output to ensure efficiency and on-time completion.
  • Ensure product quality standards are consistently met and maintained.
  • Manage raw material needs, including inventory oversight and purchase requisitions.
  • Lead training and development of employees, ensuring required certifications are maintained.
  • Enforce company policies, procedures, and safety standards, including coaching and corrective action as needed.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including implementation of Lean Management practices.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We’re looking for a hands-on Steel Shop Manager who can lead daily operations, manage production schedules, and maintain a safe, efficient work environment. The ideal candidate is an organized, self-driven leader with strong communication skills, supervisory experience, and the ability to coordinate teams and resources to meet production goals.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, with prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with employees at all levels.
  • Ability to lead, supervise, and promote a safe working environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and develop employees.
  • Solid math, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage budgets, inventory, and resource allocation.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, schedules, personnel, and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of production processes to effectively coordinate workflow and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work collaboratively to achieve operational goals.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 75 lbs occasionally and frequent bending, climbing, kneeling, twisting, squatting, crawling, and repetitive hand/arm use
  • Capable of standing, walking, and moving throughout the facility for extended shifts of up to 12 hours
  • Comfortable working at heights using ladders, scaffolding, swing stages, and man lifts frequently
  • Ability to work safely in a production or field environment with moderate to high exposure to safety risks and hazards
  • Willingness to work in varying environmental conditions, including wet, hot, humid, and cold weather, and outdoors year-round
  • Ability to wear all required PPE, including but not limited to safety boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, high visibility vest, hard hat, and other PPE as required by the task, department, or work area.
