Position Summary

The Software Test Engineer role tests firmware updates on all Product devices and is expected to participate in all agile/scrum ceremonies. This role also maintains quality assurance standards and measures for the information technology applications and services. This individual will gather and analyze data in support of business cases, proposed projects, and system requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Conduct functional and certification type testing on an ongoing basis to ensure compliance and best of class performance of Smart Start products.
  • Creates scenarios and variations in data to adequately perform testing.
  • Functional, integration, regression, and release testing; submits errors and issues to development for correction, and retests once errors have been corrected.
  • Reports test results and status as appropriate.
  • Track defects and causal analyses to closure.
  • Acts independently to review and certify test results of other analysts and testers.
  • Reviews and provides feedback on requirements, design, or scope documents.
  • Interacts with subject matter experts (SMEs) and development teams to identify and refine test requirements.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills)

  • Five years of software testing experience.
  • Must have complete understanding of SDLC.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
  • Strong knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools, and processes.
  • Familiarity with bug tracking tool like JIRA.
  • Must know the differences between Black, White and Gray box testing.
  • Must be task oriented and focused, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Must be reliable with excellent interpersonal, coordination, and verbal/written communications skills.
  • Must possess the ability to excel in a constantly changing environment.

Required Traits/Skill

  • Ability to work on multiple projects and to prioritize, accordingly.
  • Ability to troubleshoot using common sense approaches and to determine root causes using process of elimination.
  • Ability to work closely with R\&D and IT, as needed, to establish test criteria and to validate pass/failure modes.
  • Ability to follow complex technical direction and instructions.
  • Ability to submit regular status and error reports that track the status of projects.
  • Ability to work with Software Developers and understand Flowcharts and Use Cases

Desired Skills

  • Understand the styles and concepts of testing.
  • Firmware testing is a plus.
  • Familiar with automation testing tools.
  • Python knowledge a plus.
  • Knowledge of JIRA is a plus
