Junior Database Administrator (MS-SQL)

Job purpose:

As a Junior MS-SQL Database Administrator, you will be a part of a growing international team based in Kuala Lumpur Center mainly supporting MS-SQL subscriptions on Google cloud and on Azure cloud or on-premise. We are seeking candidates with wide range of expertise and skills in MS-SQL cloud database support such as day-to-day administration, performance tuning, monitoring, Backup/restore and SQL programming know-how. You will be mentoring other database administrators sharing your expertise and work in a big database team.

Key activities (approx. 6-10)*:

TASK LIST FOR THE ROLE OF Database Administrator

• Database Administration support with main focus MS-SQL databases on Google cloud or Azure cloud.
• Database Maintenance, housekeeping, troubleshooting.
• Identify and resolve database performance issues, including tuning SQL queries, optimizing indexing, and implementing necessary database changes.
• Incident, problem and change management of database-related incidents and problems, both in collaboration with other technical teams.
• Provide operational support, including capacity planning, system performance analysis, and resource utilization monitoring.
• Develop and maintain documentation related to database administration procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
• Installation, configuration and lifecycle migrations/upgrades and patch management
• Conduct ongoing monitoring and proactive management of database systems to ensure high availability and performance.
• Support database backup and recovery activities, ensuring appropriate backup strategies and disaster recovery plans are in place.
• SQL (PLSQL) database programming
• Programming of batch runs and process scripts
• Technical support for application developers (sequence reliability, standards, data flow...)
• Participate in an on-call rotation schedule to ensure 24/7 availability and response to critical incidents.
• Implementation of changes and releases in the database area
• implement and maintain MS-SQL server disaster recovery and high availability solutions.
• Ensure compliance with data protection regulations.

Formal education:

• Official acknowledged university / college qualifications
• Certified corresponding post education or training in MS-SQL database administration areas.

Specialist knowledge (work experience, further qualification)

Qualifications/Skills

Essential Skills

Sufficient and proven experience in

MS-SQL

database administration in particular:

• At least 5 years of experience working in MS-SQL database administration with sufficient skills on Google or Azure Cloud
• basic Skills in supporting Cloud PaaS subscriptions is a must
• familiarity with cloud platforms (Google or Azure)
• MS-SQL Administration, backup/recovery and Monitoring
• problem analysis resolution and error debugging including skills in raising support requests with vendors.
• database performance tuning (configuration related and application code tuning)
• database installation and configuration including patching
• basic skills in MS-SQL's HA availability solutions
• backup and recovery, cloning and duplication
• data transfer/extract features for MS-SQL
• space management analysis and object reorganization
• database patching and migrations
• database user management (authorisation and authentication)
• analysis of database performance reports
• knowledge in batch scripting
• SQL database programming
• Comprehensive knowledge in database security.
• Knowledge of Cloud key rotation concepts and network traffic encryption

additional preferred Skills (technical, methodology and business):

• Knowledge of another database technology: PostgreSQL, Oracle is a plus.
• Experience in software methodology, processes and quality assurance
