As a

Benefits Manager

, you will serve in a senior individual contributor role responsible for the design, administration, compliance, and continuous improvement of employee benefit programs. You will serve as a functional leader and subject-matter expert, partnering closely with HR, Finance, Payroll, IT, and external vendors to ensure benefit programs are compliant, cost-effective, competitive, and aligned with organizational strategy. While this position does not have direct people management responsibility at this time, it is intentionally designed for a professional who demonstrates strong leadership capability, sound judgment, and the potential to grow into a people-manager role as the organization and function evolve.

Your Impact:

  • Administer employee benefit programs including medical, prescription, dental, vision, life and AD\&D, disability, voluntary benefits, wellness programs, and defined contribution retirement plans.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, including ERISA, IRS, DOL, HIPAA, PPACA, and related requirements.
  • Prepare, review, and coordinate benefits documentation such as plan texts, summary plan descriptions, insurance policies, amendments, and regulatory filings (e.g., Form 5500s), in partnership with legal counsel and vendors.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes impacting benefits and proactively recommend required program or process updates.
  • Maintain strong governance and internal controls across benefit programs, ensuring data integrity, audit readiness, and consistent application of plan rules.
  • Oversee benefits audits, reconciliations, and vendor billing reviews; identify and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a key escalation point for complex or sensitive benefit issues, ensuring equitable, compliant, and professional resolution.
  • Manage relationships with benefit vendors, brokers, TPAs, and service providers, holding partners accountable to service levels and contractual obligations.
  • Partner cross-functionally with HR, Payroll, Accounting, IT, and Communications to ensure accurate data flow, effective system integrations, and coordinated execution of benefits initiatives.
  • Analyze benefits data, trends, and utilization to assess program effectiveness, cost drivers, and employee impact.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for benefit programs; prepare insights and recommendations for leadership review.
  • Identify cost-containment opportunities and support benefits strategy decisions with sound financial analysis and benchmarking data.
  • Lead benefits-related projects such as plan changes, vendor transitions, system enhancements, and organizational changes.
  • Translate complex benefits changes into clear execution plans and employee-ready communications.
  • Support enterprise initiatives that impact benefits, including acquisitions, carve-outs, or organizational restructuring.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of benefits education and communication initiatives, including new hire onboarding, open enrollment, wellness programs, and targeted education campaigns.
  • Ensure communications are accurate, accessible, timely, and appropriate for a diverse employee population.
  • Deliver a high level of customer service, balancing empathy with policy adherence and consistency.
  • Act as a functional leader within the benefits area, providing guidance, knowledge-sharing, and informal mentorship to colleagues as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate leadership behaviors including accountability, proactive problem-solving, sound decision-making, and effective influence without formal authority.
  • Build readiness for future people leadership through strong collaboration, communication, and ownership of outcomes.

Your Profile:

  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in employee benefits administration, preferably within a complex or multi-entity organization.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability; prior direct people management experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong working knowledge of retirement and health \& welfare plans, including applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Experience partnering with multiple vendors and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to analyze data, interpret trends, and support decision-making.
  • Proficiency with HRIS (UKG), benefits administration platforms (bSwift), and Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex topics clearly.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • High degree of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.
