This position is based in Anchorage, AK and has a hybrid work schedule.

Summary:

The Benefits Analyst plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of the organization’s employee benefits programs. This position is responsible for managing monthly benefits billing, performing detailed reconciliations, auditing enrollment data, and supporting ongoing benefits administration. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail oriented, and comfortable working with complex data across multiple systems.

Responsibilities:

Monthly Billing \& Reconciliation

Manage the full monthly benefits billing cycle for all benefit plans, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and supplemental programs.

Reconcile carrier invoices against internal HRIS/benefits system data to ensure accuracy of premiums, enrollments, and employer/employee contributions.

Identify discrepancies, research root causes, and resolve issues directly with carriers, vendors, and internal stakeholders.

Track credits, adjustments, retroactive changes, and refunds to maintain accurate financial records.

Prepare monthly billing reports and summaries for Finance, HR leadership, and auditors.

Ensure accurate and timely benefits processing in coordination with payroll and HRIS systems.

Enrollment \& Data Auditing

Conduct regular audits of employee benefit enrollments to ensure data accuracy across HRIS, payroll, and carrier systems.

Review new hire enrollments, qualifying life event changes, and terminations for compliance with plan rules and deadlines.

Monitor and correct data mismatches, retroactive adjustments, and system errors.

Partner with HRIS and Payroll teams to ensure seamless data flow and accurate deductions.

Support annual open enrollment audits, testing, and data validation.

Support benefits audits and ensure all benefits data is accurately documented and reported.

Employee \& Vendor Support

Address and resolve benefit-related issues, escalating complex cases as needed.

Partner with benefits providers, brokers, and third‑party administrators to resolve employee issues and maintain service quality.

Support vendor management activities, including contract renewals and performance evaluations.

Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of regulatory changes and recommend adjustments to ensure compliance.

Benefits Administration \& Process Improvement

Assist with plan renewals, rate updates, and vendor file feeds.

Maintain accurate documentation, SOPs, and audit trails for compliance and reporting.

Support benefits projects, system enhancements, and process improvements.

Identify opportunities to streamline benefits administration processes for increased efficiency and accuracy.

Assist with the planning and execution of annual benefits open enrollment.

Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of employee benefits administration, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, and supplemental plans.
  • Knowledge of benefits billing, reconciliation processes, and enrollment auditing best practices.
  • Knowledge of HRIS and payroll systems and how benefits data flows between platforms.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements such as ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, and other benefits related compliance standards.
  • Knowledge of vendor processes, carrier file feeds, and benefits data management. Knowledge of Alaska Tribal Health System, ANTHC, and Alaska Native culture(s) (if applicable to your organization).
  • Skill in operating a personal computer and utilizing a variety of applications, including spreadsheets, HRIS platforms, and benefits administration systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
  • Skill in organizing, prioritizing, and managing multiple tasks with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Skill in written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain benefits concepts clearly.
  • Skill in collaborating with internal teams, vendors, and external partners to resolve issues efficiently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with employees, vendors, and cross functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to analyze discrepancies, identify root causes, and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, or related field. Progressively responsible professional work-related experience, education, or training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION

Non-supervisory – Three (3) years of work experience in providing Human Resources administrative support. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

According to the needs of the organization, some incumbents in this job class may be required to obtain specific technical certifications and programming language skills.
