Job Description
Electrical Engineers (EIT or PE) — Curious About Forensic Engineering?
If you’re an
Electrical Engineer
who enjoys problem‑solving, investigation, and understanding
why
things fail—not just how to build them—this could be a career‑defining opportunity.
Schaefer Engineering
is growing its forensic engineering team and is looking for an
Electrical Engineer
(EIT or PE) with a strong interest in
forensic electrical engineering
. This role is designed for engineers who want to learn, be mentored, and gain exposure across the full spectrum of forensic work—
with company support every step of the way
.
What you’ll be doing:
- Investigating electrical failures, fires, and incidents in real‑world environments
- Performing field examinations, data collection, and evidence analysis
- Supporting forensic investigations from initial scene work through reporting and testimony
- Learning directly from senior engineers with decades of forensic experience
- Preparing detailed technical reports
- Gradually growing into project ownership at a pace that sets you up for success
The kind of engineer who thrives here:
- Holds an
EIT
(required) or
PE
- Has a
Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering
from an accredited program
- Is curious, analytical, and enjoys troubleshooting complex problems
- Wants a long‑term career in
forensic electrical engineering
- Is flexible and comfortable with sometimes frequent travel (this work is field‑driven and dynamic)
- Values learning, mentorship, and real professional growth
This is a
hands‑on, field‑based role
, and candidates should be comfortable with the physical realities of forensic work, including:
- Ability to
lift up to 50 pounds
- Working in
confined spaces
(crawl spaces, attics, etc.)
- Climbing ladders
and navigating uneven or damaged environments
- Exposure to
extreme weather conditions
(hot summers, cold winters)
- Ability to work at investigation sites that may be
unpredictable
(e.g., post‑fire or loss scenes)
- Holding a
valid driver’s license
and being comfortable driving as part of the role
Why this role stands out:
✅
EITs welcome
– PE preferred, but not required
✅
Company‑supported PE path
(exam fees, prep courses, and mentorship covered)
✅
Hands‑on training under highly experienced engineers
✅
Exposure across the entire forensic engineering field
, not just one narrow lane
✅
Collaborative, flat organization
—no micromanagement, real mentorship
✅
Work that feels like solving a mystery
, not routine design work
This is
not
a role where you’re thrown into the deep end. You’ll be supported as you learn the role, trained before running projects independently, and given exposure to a wide range of forensic disciplines to build a strong foundation.
If you’ve ever thought,
“Forensic engineering sounds fascinating, but how do I actually break into it?”
— this is that path.
