Job Description

Senior Accountant \| Government Contracts \| High-Growth Technology Business

📍 Ann Arbor, MI (Onsite)

💰 $120,000 – $130,000 Base \+ Exceptional Benefits

What if you could join a company where the finance function is still being built, your ideas genuinely shape the business, and your career can grow alongside a company targeting 50-100x growth over the next five years?

We're partnering with an innovative, engineering-led technology company supporting highly complex government programs. Following significant growth, they're looking for a hands-on Senior Accountant to become the first dedicated finance hire and build the accounting function alongside leadership.

This is not a traditional corporate accounting role.

You'll work directly with executive leadership, own the day-to-day accounting operation, help establish scalable financial processes, and play a key role in preparing the business for its next phase of growth.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Own full-cycle accounting operations
  • Manage AP, AR, invoicing, billing and cash receipts
  • Maintain the general ledger and monthly close activities
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and cash flow planning
  • Track project and contract profitability
  • Manage government contract accounting requirements
  • Ensure FAR Part 31 compliance
  • Support DCAA audits and accounting system reviews
  • Maintain compliant timekeeping and labor distribution controls
  • Prepare financial reporting for executive leadership
  • Identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies
  • Help build a scalable finance infrastructure as the company grows

What Makes This Opportunity Different?

In the short term, you'll be the go-to accounting expert for the business.

Over the next 6-12 months, you'll have the opportunity to redesign processes, improve reporting, and help establish best-in-class financial operations.

Longer term, you'll have the chance to lead the selection and implementation of a future ERP platform as the company scales.

This is a rare opportunity to join early and help build something rather than inherit it.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5\+ years of Government Contract Accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of FAR Part 31 and DCAA requirements
  • Experience supporting DCAA accounting system and indirect rate audits
  • Experience managing accounting activities within a government contracting environment
  • Strong QuickBooks Desktop experience
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Comfortable operating in a hands-on, high-autonomy environment
  • Someone who enjoys solving problems, creating structure, and building processes from the ground up

Bonus Points For

  • Indirect rate calculation experience
  • Incurred Cost Submission experience
  • ERP implementation experience
  • Experience helping a small business scale rapidly

Why Join?

✅ Direct access to executive leadership

✅ Opportunity to build and own a finance function

✅ Genuine career progression as the company scales

✅ High-growth environment with no ceiling on development

✅ Team-oriented culture where ideas are encouraged and acted upon

Benefits

  • 100% employer-paid medical coverage
  • Dependent healthcare contribution
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Flexible PTO
  • Company shutdown between Christmas and New Year (fully paid)
  • Short-term and long-term disability coverage
  • Life insurance
  • Strong work-life and family-focused culture

If you're looking for a role where you can move beyond transactional accounting and become a strategic part of a company's growth journey, we'd love to speak with you.
