Role Description

The Elementary School Counselor is a full-time, on-site role located in Sandy Springs GA. This role supports neurodiverse elementary students through individual and small-group counseling, social-emotional skills instruction, and crisis intervention when needed. The counselor collaborates with teachers, administrators, and families to develop strategies that foster positive behavior, emotional regulation, and academic success. Daily responsibilities include conducting student assessments, developing counseling plans, maintaining documentation, and contributing to IEP or support team meetings. The counselor also assists with school-wide initiatives that promote mental health, social skills, and a safe, inclusive climate.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated skills in Student Counseling and general Counseling focused on social-emotional development and mental health support.
• Experience or training in Special Education and supporting neurodiverse students, including those with ASD, ADHD, and learning differences.
• Ability to provide age-appropriate Career Counseling and guidance activities that build self-awareness and future readiness.
• Experience with Community Outreach, including collaborating with families, external therapists, and community resources.
• Relevant master’s degree (e.g., School Counseling, Counseling, Psychology, Special Education) and appropriate state licensure or certification preferred.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills, with the ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary teams.
• Training in behavior management, social skills curricula, or therapeutic approaches (e.g., CBT, solution-focused counseling) is beneficial.
• Prior experience in K–5 or elementary school settings, particularly with neurodiverse learners, is highly desirable.
