Role Overview
Atlas Gunworks builds precision products in a tight-tolerance manufacturing environment where engineering decisions directly affect product performance, reliability, and scalability.
The Engineering Manager leads the integration of product design, manufacturing engineering, and process execution across the organization. This role ensures that engineering work translates into practical, repeatable manufacturing outcomes while supporting product innovation and operational improvement.
This position combines leadership with hands-on technical engagement. The Engineering Manager will guide engineering teams while also participating in problem solving, prototype validation, process reviews, and cross-functional improvement initiatives.
Candidates should bring a strong background in tight-tolerance manufacturing environments and be comfortable working both in the office and on the production floor.
Leadership Scope
- Lead and support Design Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering teams
- Align engineering priorities with company growth and production goals
- Foster collaboration between Engineering, Quality, and Operations

Core Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership
- Manage and mentor engineers across product and manufacturing disciplines
- Provide technical guidance and remove barriers to execution
- Establish clear priorities and expectations for engineering deliverables
- Support recruitment and development of engineering talent
Product \& Manufacturing Integration
- Ensure product designs translate effectively into manufacturing processes
- Support manufacturability reviews and design improvement initiatives
- Partner with operations teams to improve production consistency and efficiency
- Review fixture strategies, tooling concepts, and process improvements
Technical Problem Solving
- Support engineering teams in troubleshooting product and process issues
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action efforts when needed
- Evaluate prototype and concept designs to ensure functional viability
- Participate in product validation and performance testing
Engineering Planning \& Execution
- Help structure engineering workstreams and project timelines
- Coordinate engineering resources across multiple initiatives
- Track progress against project goals and schedules
- Ensure engineering output aligns with production and product launch plans
Documentation \& Engineering Standards
- Support drawing standards, GD\&T application, and revision control practices
- Ensure engineering documentation supports consistent manufacturing outcomes
- Maintain disciplined change management processes
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes and product designs
- Support operational excellence initiatives across engineering and operations
- Encourage practical engineering solutions that improve efficiency and quality
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
- 10\+ years of engineering experience in manufacturing environments
- Prior experience leading or mentoring engineering teams
- Experience working in tight-tolerance manufacturing environments
- Familiarity with manufacturing process development and improvement
- Strong understanding of technical drawings and GD\&T
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in aerospace, defense, firearms, or other precision manufacturing industries
- Exposure to CNC machining environments
- Fixture design or manufacturing process development experience
- Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement training
- Military service or defense industry experience

Compensation – Burlington, Vermont
Base Salary Range:
$140,000 – $160,000
This range reflects the leadership scope, required experience, and cost-of-living considerations for the Burlington market.
