Job Summary
The Director of Engineering leads and directs a multidisciplinary team responsible for cost estimating, engineering, BID development, and proposal activities. This role is accountable for developing integrated technical solutions and new value propositions by applying and adapting existing systems and technologies across multiple OEMs and functional areas.
The Director partners closely with Sales and Operations to support business development efforts, providing engineering expertise, cost estimates, and system design support for proposals and client presentations. Additionally, this role plays a key part in identifying and advancing new business opportunities, helping to drive growth and innovation across the organization.
Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership \& Team Development
- Lead, manage, and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous professional development.
- Drive team capabilities to deliver high-quality engineering solutions and outputs.
Technical Expertise \& Organizational Support
- Serve as the central competence center for all matters related to service offerings.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance across departments and functions.
Knowledge Management \& Continuous Improvement
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge base, including lessons learned, best practices, and win/loss analyses.
- Utilize insights to drive ongoing process improvement and operational excellence.
Business Intelligence \& Market Awareness
- Provide access to key business intelligence, including market trends, upcoming projects, competitors, partners, consultants, and regulatory updates.
Cross-Functional Communication, Engineering Solutions \& Alignment
- Ensure consistent and effective information sharing across Sales, Station Management, Project Management, and Finance teams.
- Aligning engineering activities with organizational goals and priorities.
- Support and align go-to-market strategies by coordinating cross-functional initiatives.
- Deliver regular reporting on progress, performance, and outcomes.
- Provide Maximo system support and design integrated technical solutions.
- Ensure alignment with customer requirements and business objectives.
Process Standardization, Innovation \& Operational Excellence
- Establish, implement, and enforce standards, processes, and procedures.
- Ensure consistent quality, efficiency, and adherence to best practices.
- Identify and recommend process improvements and technology enhancements.
- Drive innovation to improve efficiency and service delivery.
Pricing, Bids \& Proposal Development
- Develop, review, and validate customer pricing, bids, and proposals.
- Ensure accuracy, competitiveness, and alignment with strategic objectives.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma required
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related discipline preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Ten (10) years’ experience in an engineering role, with a minimum of 8 years in a leadership role.
- Experience developing and planning complex engineering solutions.
- Experience collaborating with stakeholders to develop and execute strategic hiring plans and build high-performing teams.
- Strong technical proficiency across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical control systems.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and work with complex equipment and integrated systems.
- Knowledge of electrical, life safety, and applicable regulatory codes.
- Proficient with computer systems and standard business and engineering software.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
- Some domestic travel for project rollouts and business meetings (\~40%).
- Remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
- Handle/grasp documents or office equipment.
- Sit and/or stand for short or extended periods.
- Work in an office environment using standard office equipment.
- Talk, listen, and speak clearly on the telephone.
