Interim School Counselor, Maternity Leave Replacement from Sept 3 - Dec 23, 2026

Roosevelt Elementary School, Manville School District

This is an Interim Elementary School Counselor position, which will run from September 3, 2026 through December 23, 2026, to help students achieve personal fulfillment by providing counseling services to make successful personal/social, educational, and occupational life plans.

Qualifications

  • Valid New Jersey School Counselor Endorsement or eligibility.
  • Broad knowledge of testing and evaluation, theories of individual and group counseling techniques, elementary/secondary school counseling program design, and career educational information and placement.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with students, parents, staff, and community groups and organizations

REPORTS TO:

Supervisor of Counseling / Building Principal

Primary Functions

  • Develop and deliver the school counseling curriculum in a classroom setting.
  • Assist students in academic and career planning and social/emotional development.
  • Assist students in evaluating aptitudes and abilities to plan educational and career goals.
  • Evaluate student progress towards promotion.
  • Work collaboratively with families to support student academic, social-emotional development, and college and career planning.
  • Provide individual and small group counseling in a variety of settings.
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to understand and meet the needs of students in the school setting.
  • Provide appropriate referrals of students and families to outside agencies and specialists.
  • Participate in activities that contribute to the effective operation of the school.
  • Plan, evaluate, and revise the school counseling program.
  • Participate in professional development to stay abreast of the field.
  • Promote an understanding and appreciation of diverse populations and cultures.
  • Prepare students to transition to the next level: middle school, high school, and post-high school activities.
  • Maintain student records and ensure their confidentiality.
  • Maintain a close relationship with the child study team, following directives and recommendations as needed.
  • Register new students to the school and provide orientation and information about school procedures, curriculum, extracurricular activities, and opportunities.
  • Participate in follow-up studies of former students to improve services and evaluate the effectiveness of the school's educational program.
  • Interpret student data and assessment results appropriately in the counseling environment to identify trends.
  • Assist in evaluating current curriculum offerings and in planning, selecting, and implementing new course offerings.
  • Maintain a professional office environment.
  • Performs other duties within their employment and certification scope may be assigned by the supervisor.

COMPENSATION:

The annual salary range is commensurate with education level and years of experience, starting at $66,705 (minimum) to $95,850 (maximum) for the 2026-2027 school year in accordance with the Manville Education Association.
