JOB TITLE: Social Media \& Marketing Intern

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

DATE: Summer 2026

REPORTS TO: Director of Marketing

A coat. A meal. A pair of glasses. Simple things like these often stand between a child and their ability to learn. Care to Learn partners with Missouri school districts and community members to fill these gaps and to help keep students focused on what matters most: learning.

Care to Learn is seeking a Social Media \& Marketing Intern who both values and is passionate about using social media as a strategic marketing tool. This position cares deeply about supporting a cause and understands the importance of using social media to promote the connection the Care to Learn mission has with our community, schools, and the students we serve.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Social Media \& Marketing Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Director of Marketing in carrying out the social media strategy and additional marketing activities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Assist in developing fresh and creative mission-minded content to be featured on Care to Learn’s website and social media pages.
  • Assist in capturing images, videos, blogs, graphics, and other content to increase brand awareness and engagement.
  • Assist in posting and scheduling engaging content, including images, videos, blogs, stories, and graphics.
  • Planning and scheduling posts using social media management tools.
  • Attending on- and off-site events to capture and share social media content, as needed.
  • Engaging with Care to Learn followers by responding to comments and messages, as a way to maintain a strong online community.
  • Monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on key performance metrics to optimize content and engagement.
  • Archiving all captured social media content and media mentions.
  • Conducting social media market research and competitor analysis to identify trends and opportunities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Actively pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms, trends, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in content creation tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.).
  • Experience with social media analytics and scheduling tools (Hootsuite, Buffer, Meta Business Suite, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and copywriting skills.
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding, commitment, and enthusiasm for the organization’s mission and vision.
  • Ability to brainstorm new concept designs.
  • Ability to implement design vision and direction while developing creative solutions.
  • Demonstrate adaptability in a rapidly changing environment and prioritize objectives.
  • Demonstrate leadership ability to motivate oneself and others.
  • Ability to multitask and work with a diverse group of people and demonstrate a consistent professional demeanor.
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Knowledge of Google Drive, including Docs, Forms, Sheets, and Slides.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be actively pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • Prior internship experience preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.

Physical Requirements and Percentage of Work Time Spent on Activity

  • Seeing: Must be able to see to read documents/reports and use computer. 75-100%
  • Hearing: Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with staff, donors, vendors, and general public. 75-100%
  • Sitting: Must be able to sit for long periods of time. 75-100%
  • Standing/Walking: Must be able to move about the work area. 25-49%
  • Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: Must be able to stoop or kneel to pick up items off the floor. 25-49%
  • Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: Must be able to lift 20 pounds with or without reasonable assistance. 25-49%
  • Grasping/Feeling: Must be able to type, handle documents, and use equipment and electronic devices. 75-100%

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal working conditions in an office absent extreme factors. Local and regional travel may be required up to 20% percent of the time.
