Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled
Mechanical Product Design Engineer
to join Amazon's product development team in Boston, MA. The ideal candidate will have strong experience designing camera-based and sensor-based products, taking concepts from initial design through prototype and validation. This role requires expertise in mechanical design, thermal management, optics integration, and design for manufacturability while working in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop innovative mechanical products from concept through prototype and validation.
- Lead the mechanical design of camera-focused and sensor-focused systems, ensuring robust performance and reliability.
- Create detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using SolidWorks.
- Perform thermal analysis and simulations to optimize product performance and thermal management.
- Collaborate closely with electrical, software, systems, and manufacturing teams to integrate hardware and software components.
- Define, document, and manage mechanical design requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
- Conduct tolerance stack-up analysis and validate designs for manufacturability and assembly.
- Perform design verification testing, root cause analysis, and structured problem-solving to resolve product issues.
- Drive design reviews and ensure compliance with quality, reliability, and production requirements.
- Support prototype builds, testing activities, and transition of products into production.
- Maintain engineering documentation, including specifications, drawings, test reports, and design records.
- Independently manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality solutions within project timelines.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 5\+ years of experience in mechanical product design and development.
- Strong experience designing camera-based, imaging, or sensor-based products.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling, assemblies, and detailed drawings.
- Experience with thermal management and thermal simulation techniques.
- Strong understanding of tolerance analysis and mechanical assembly design.
- Experience with design verification, testing, root cause analysis, and problem-solving methodologies.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of product development activities.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using Ansys or similar simulation tools for thermal analysis.
- Knowledge of optics, camera systems, and machine vision technologies.
- Experience integrating mechanical, electrical, and software systems in complex products.
- Experience working on consumer electronics, robotics, imaging systems, or sensor-based platforms.
- Familiarity with rapid prototyping, product validation, and production launch processes
