Amazon's Worldwide Grocery Stores-Grocery Management Tech team is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to lead medium to large cross-functional strategic initiatives that support WWGS strategic goals. This is a unique opportunity for someone inspired by WWGS core values and is interested in Amazon’s high-growth grocery business to bring their whole self to the role.

Key job responsibilities

  • Participate in on-call rotation to provide support for custom-built reporting and analytical applications, ensuring business-as-usual operations and timely data delivery for business users.
  • Lead data integration, reporting, and analytics projects, leveraging experience in enterprise data engineering.
  • Understand business requirements, design and implement scalable data model, ETL processes and reporting to address business needs.
  • Design and build next-generation data infrastructure to replace existing third-party solutions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Data Engineers, Software Developers, Business Intelligence Engineers, Analysts, Product Managers, and Program Managers.
  • Transform complex datasets into automated, digestible analytic deliverables.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills, decisiveness, and ownership while working in a team environment.
  • Drive significant impact through modernized design, architecture, and development of data products.
  • Contribute technical expertise to help transition the organization from legacy solutions to future-state data infrastructure.
  • Partner with data engineering team members to deliver on strategic vision and objectives.

A day in the life

Ensure business continuity and on-time data delivery to business users. Work with your leadership to define and execute the reporting and analytics strategy for WWGST. This will involve leveraging your Data Modeling, SQL and coding skills in languages like Python and Java to extract, transform, and load data. You will collaborate closely with both internal and external teams to scope, design, build, and support efficient and cost-effective data pipelines focused on performance, operational excellence, and delivering business value. This work will span multiple technology stacks, including a custom-built proprietary Amazon framework. You will participate in and lead standups, design sessions, and Jira management, creating necessary documentation and artifacts. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to lead and mentor your peers.

About the team

The Data Platform Management (DPM) team under Grocery Management Tech is responsible for data and reporting solutions for Grocery business users. We enable sophisticated, fact-based decision making across WWGST by delivering constantly evolving technology and analytic capabilities. This team will solve challenging and novel problems every day while collaborating with multiple teams across WWGST (Whole Foods Market (WFM)). You will be able to enjoy and contribute to the unique blend of Amazon and WFM Tech culture.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5\+ years of data engineering experience
  • Experience in data warehouse technical architectures, data modeling, infrastructure components, ETL/ ELT and reporting/analytic tools and environments, data structures and hands-on SQL coding
  • Knowledge of AWS tech stack (e.g., AWS Redshift, S3, EC2, Glue)
  • Experience with any ETL tool like, Informatica, ODI, SSIS, BODI, Datastage, etc.
  • Experience using business intelligence reporting tools such as OBIEE, Business Objects, Cognos, Tableau, MicroStrategy, SSAS Cubes, etc.
  • Experience with programming languages like Python, JavaScript, Go, .Net, Java or equivalent
  • Experience in reverse engineering legacy analytical/reporting applications where minimal documentation is available.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with non-relational databases / data stores (object storage, document or key-value stores, graph databases, column-family databases)
  • Experience in Database like NoSQL, or experience in any Bigdata architecture and experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
  • AWS certification, such as, AWS Solutions Architect, or a similar cloud certification, or Associate's degree or above

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
