Job Description

Hiring Online Math, Physics \& Chemistry Tutors

100% Remote \| Independent Contractor \| Part-Time \| $30–$40 per 1-hour lesson \| Approximately 10–25 hours/week

Stemly Tutoring is looking for experienced, dependable, and enthusiastic

Math, Physics, and Chemistry tutors

to join our growing team!

We provide personalized, one-on-one online tutoring to middle school, high school, and college students across the U.S. Our goal is not just to help students complete assignments, we want to help them truly understand the material, build confidence, and become more independent learners.

We’re looking for tutors who genuinely enjoy teaching, are excellent at breaking down challenging STEM concepts, and want to build consistent, long-term relationships with their students.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide one-on-one online tutoring using an interactive whiteboard with video and audio
  • Tutor subjects such as Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus, Calculus, Statistics, Physics, and/or Chemistry, depending on your areas of expertise
  • Tailor lessons to each student’s individual needs, coursework, learning style, and goals
  • Help students with concept mastery, homework, quizzes, exams, and AP exam preparation when applicable
  • Focus on developing students’ conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, confidence, and independence
  • Write a brief lesson summary after each session to document what was covered and the student’s progress
  • Communicate professionally and promptly with students, parents, and the Stemly team as needed
  • Maintain a reliable and consistent weekly schedule with your assigned students

Schedule \& Availability

This is a flexible, part-time

independent contractor position

. Because most of our students attend school during the day, tutors must have consistent afternoon and/or evening availability.

  • Approximately

10–25 hours per week

, depending on your availability, subject expertise, and student demand

  • Must have regular availability between approximately

3–8 PM in at least one U.S. time zone (Pacific, Central, or Eastern)

  • Weekend availability is a plus and may allow you to take on additional students
  • Tutors may begin with a lighter schedule and gradually build their student load
  • Most students meet at the same time each week, so consistent weekly availability is important
  • Minimum

6-month commitment

required, with preference given to tutors interested in staying with Stemly long-term

Qualifications

Required:

  • 3\+ years of tutoring or teaching experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Engineering, or another closely related STEM field
  • Strong knowledge of the subjects you plan to tutor
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patient, friendly, dependable, and comfortable working with teenagers and young adults
  • Ability to explain difficult concepts in multiple ways and adapt to different learning styles
  • Strong reliability, organization, and time-management skills
  • Must be located in the United States
  • Minimum 6-month commitment

Preferred:

  • Graduate degree or current enrollment in a graduate program
  • Previous online tutoring experience
  • Experience tutoring AP-level and/or college-level STEM courses
  • Experience working with middle and high school students

Technology Requirements

Because our lessons are highly interactive, tutors must have the appropriate technology to work through problems with students in real time.

You must have:

•

An iPad with an Apple Pencil OR an equivalent tablet/touchscreen device with a stylus

that allows you to comfortably write equations, draw diagrams, and work through problems on an online whiteboard

  • Reliable high-speed internet
  • Computer with a webcam and microphone
  • Quiet, professional environment for lessons

A standard laptop without a touchscreen or writing tablet is not sufficient for this position.

Compensation

•

$30–$40 per 1-hour lesson

, depending on experience, qualifications, subject expertise, performance, and tenure with Stemly Tutoring

  • Starting compensation is determined based on experience and qualifications
  • Opportunities for pay increases based on performance, reliability, and continued work with Stemly

Compensation is per lesson and includes reasonable lesson preparation, brief post-lesson notes, and routine communication related to your students.

This is an

independent contractor (1099) position

, not an employee position.

Who We’re Looking For

You may be a great fit for Stemly if you:

  • Genuinely enjoy teaching and mentoring students
  • Can make challenging STEM subjects feel approachable
  • Are warm and encouraging while still keeping students focused and accountable
  • Take initiative and come prepared for your lessons
  • Communicate promptly and professionally
  • Are highly dependable and take your weekly commitments seriously
  • Want to work consistently with the same students and see their progress over time
  • Are looking for an ongoing tutoring position rather than occasional or short-term work

Interview Process

Our interview process is designed to make sure the position is a good fit for both you and Stemly.

Step 1: Interview

We’ll schedule a video interview to get to know you, learn more about your background and tutoring experience, discuss the subjects you’re comfortable teaching, and answer any questions you have about working with Stemly.

Step 2: Trial Lesson

Candidates who move forward will complete a trial tutoring lesson. This gives us an opportunity to see your tutoring style in action and make sure your communication, teaching approach, and ability to connect with students align with what we’re looking for at Stemly.

We care a lot about finding tutors who are not only highly knowledgeable, but also patient, engaging, reliable, and able to make students feel comfortable asking questions.
