As Midcoast FCU continues to strengthen its leadership structure and support sustainable growth, we are seeking an Accounting Manager to play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy, operational excellence, and strong internal controls across the organization. This role partners closely with the Chief Financial Officer and contributes to our mission of cultivating a thriving community, together.

Midcoast FCU is seeking a collaborative and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to lead the day-to-day accounting operations of the Credit Union. This position ensures accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting while supporting strategic decision-making through reliable financial data, strong internal controls, and a high-performing team.

What You’ll Do

As Accounting Manager, you will provide leadership and oversight across core accounting functions, ensuring operational consistency, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in financial processes. You will partner with the CFO and organizational leaders to support financial planning, reporting, and decision-making.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Accounting Operations \& Financial Reporting: Oversee daily accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll processing, and month-end and year-end close. Ensure accurate, timely financial reporting and maintain alignment with GAAP and regulatory expectations.
  • Internal Controls \& Process Improvement: Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and documentation. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of accounting systems and reporting.
  • Team Leadership \& Development: Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team to ensure high performance, accountability, and engagement. Support cross-training, professional development, and succession planning to maintain continuity across key functions.Partner with internal and external auditors and support regulatory compliance efforts. Assist in identifying risks, strengthening controls, and ensuring timely resolution of audit findings.Oversee payroll processing and reporting to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Coordinate with HR on employee lifecycle changes, benefits administration, and retirement plan contributions.Coordinate vendor relationships and facilities-related services, ensuring functional, well-maintained environments that support employees and members.
  • Compliance, Audit \& Risk Support: Partner with internal and external auditors and support regulatory compliance efforts. Assist in identifying risks, strengthening controls, and ensuring timely resolution of audit findings.

  • Operational \& Facility Support: Coordinate vendor relationships and facilities-related services, ensuring functional, well-maintained environments that support employees and members.

Success in this role is demonstrated through accurate and timely financial reporting, strong internal controls, effective team leadership, seamless audit and compliance processes, and meaningful contributions to organizational decision-making and operational efficiency.

What You Bring

  • 3–5 years of relevant accounting or financial operations experience.
  • A two-year college degree, specialized certification, or equivalent experience in accounting or finance.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop a team.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to translate financial data into actionable insights.
  • Effective and professional communication and collaboration skills across departments and external partners.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid position requiring some in-office presence at a designated branch location.
