Job Description

Interested in a job that allows you to see remote parts of beautiful California and participate in scientific efforts to conserve and manage deer, while working on a dynamic team of motivated people?

Then this may be the job for you! The incumbent will coordinate and plan fecal DNA (fDNA) surveys to address impacts to deer conservation and management, while also assessing environmental conditions and habitats. Day to day tasks include statewide driving to remote areas of California to execute field assignments, collecting fDNA, supporting game captures and surveys via helicopter and fixed wing aircraft, and leading seasonal staff in various fieldwork activities.

This is a 12-month limited term position with the potential to be extended up to 24 months or could become permanent.

In order to be eligible for this position, you must either be transfer eligible or take and pass the following exam.

This position is a 12-month Limited Term (LT) and may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

If you currently have permanent status in your position and have passed probation, you have mandatory reinstatement rights into your former position at the end of this LT appointment. If you have not had prior permanent or probationary civil service status, you will be separated from state service.

During this 12-month Limited Term assignment, you will receive full health, dental, and vision benefits! You will also earn State Service and accrue monthly leave credits.

Working Conditions

Weekend work, early morning and late-night work hours are occasionally required with advance notice. Ability to use a computer several hours a day. Ability to drive a four-wheel drive vehicle and ATV. Attend meetings and hearings, work with staff statewide to complete work assignments. Required travel, including weekends is required within the state of California. Travel of up to 50% may include multiple day overnight stays up to ten days.
