Job Description
Maintenance Technician I
Chennai
Responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting press tools, dies, and related equipment to ensure smooth production operations, minimizing downtime, and maintain product quality.
You will report to the MAINTENANCE TEAM LEAD in Kancheepuram, India and will follow Onsite Work set up
Your Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on press tools and dies
- Handle breakdown maintenance during production shifts
- Inspect and maintain cutting punches, dies, strippers, guides, and springs
- Identify and rectify issues like burrs, cracks, bending defects, and dimensional variation
- Coordinate with production and quality teams to resolve rejection issues
- Inspect tools and dies for wear, damage, or misalignment
- Carry out tool dismantling, repair, reassembly, and testing
- Troubleshoot issues related to tool performance, dimensional accuracy, and defects
- Maintain tool maintenance records, history cards, and PM checklists
- Ensure availability of critical spares (punches, inserts, fasteners, springs)
- Participate in continuous improvement activities to enhance tool life and performance
- Follow safety standards and maintain clean working conditions
- Follow 5S, safety, and TPM practices
The Essentials - You Will Have
- ITI / Diploma in Tool \& Die, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- 5–10 years of experience in press tool maintenance (progressive, compound, or transfer dies)
- Knowledge of cutting tools, die components, and materials
- Knowledge of designing tools \& die and fixtures
- Read and interpret engineering drawings
- Hands-on experience with grinding, milling, fitting, and bench work
- Basic knowledge of measuring instruments (vernier, micrometer, height gauge, etc… )
The Preferred - You Might Also Have
- 1\+ years of experience in sheet metal or automotive industry
- Knowledge of tool steels and heat treatment effects
- Exposure to press machines, punching machines and bending machines
- Basic understanding of root cause analysis (RCA)
