Job Description
The
Associate ACW Scientist
will conduct research and development efforts for CCM products, particularly adhesives, sealants, and coatings for the commercial roofing market. Work will be initially focused on solvent-based contact/bonding adhesives. The ACW scientist will leverage their material and polymer science expertise and the latest technologies in laboratory-, pilot-, and plant-scale processing equipment to support the existing business and to create new, innovative products, processes, formulations, test methods, and building assemblies.
The ACW scientist will work closely with value chain partners as well as commercial and technical leadership to scope, prioritize, and drive projects that enable the next generation of adhesives and coatings. The role includes, but is not limited to, innovating new products and processes, supporting existing products and processes, providing support through product stewardship, and optimizing operational and product installation costs. This position will be located at the Research and Innovation Center in Carlisle, PA and will operate under the general guidance of the ACW R\&D Team Lead and Director.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for multiple innovation and new product development projects in support of the commercial roofing business segment
- Conduct and/or interpret results of advanced material characterization techniques to establish structure property relationships of polymer materials.
- Publish technical reports, make technical recommendations to stakeholders and leadership, and/or conduct technical presentations
- Perform product stewardship activities to support assigned product lines
- Identify and execute cost savings, sustainability, quality improvement, and process improvement projects
- Champion safety while working in the laboratory, production facilities, and the field and comply with safe handling requirements for hazardous chemicals and waste materials
General Knowledge And Skills
- Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Material Science or related discipline
- Demonstrated experience with polymer formulation, polymer compounding/mixing, and polymer processing equipment preferred
- Demonstrated experience in polymer and product characterization through rheology and other analytical techniques preferred
- Training or experience on design of experiments and statistical analysis, especially as applied to development of chemical formulations
