Our deep therapeutic-area expertise, coupled with Direct Data Capture, eCOA, eConsent, telehealth, neurocognitive testing, and digital biomarkers advancement, drive the industry standard for data precision and usher in a new generation of clinical trials. With offices in the United States and Denmark, Clinical Ink is rewriting the clinical development experience.

Job Description

Clinical Ink is seeking a

Director of Engineering

to to join Clinical Ink's Disease Management team based in Denmark and the United States. In this role, you own how the engineering team delivers: the roadmap and milestones, the people and their growth, and the interface to product, clinical, regulatory, and the executive team. You set technical direction with the Principal Engineer — you don’t have to be the deepest architect in the room, but you must be technical enough to make and defend hard trade-offs, and to keep a regulated delivery on track without smothering the team’s drive to build. The Director of Engineering's responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Own delivery: turn product and regulatory intent into a sequenced, achievable plan; hit the submission and release milestones.
  • Hire, grow, and lead the engineering team — set the bar, run the loop, develop people, and shape a culture of ownership and impact.
  • Partner with the Principal Engineer on architecture and significant-change decisions; make the build-vs-buy and resourcing calls.
  • Be the engineering voice to product, clinical, regulatory/QMS, and execs — translate in both directions and keep commitments honest.
  • Stand up the reliability practice as the platform heads to production: SLOs and error budgets, observability, incident response, and a humane on-call — operational maturity that scales with the product. Own the infra/cloud spend and resourcing trade-offs.
  • Steward process that helps, not hinders: the quality system, change control, and CI controls should make safe shipping faster, not slower.
  • Champion AI-augmented engineering as a force-multiplier for a small team, with verification and safety built in.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading engineering teams that shipped real software, with a credible technical foundation (you came up through backend/platform or can hold your own there).
  • A track record of delivering under constraints — milestones, small teams, competing priorities — without burning the team out.
  • Strong judgment on architecture and trade-offs; you can dive into a design review and add signal.
  • Excellent communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfort building in a regulated, safety-critical, AI-augmented environment.
  • Regulated / health software (SaMD, IEC 62304, ISO 14971, HIPAA, FDA pathways).
  • Scaling a team from a handful of engineers; standing up hiring and on-call.
  • Hands-on history with our stack (Python/FastAPI/AWS) or healthcare data (FHIR, wearables).
