Mechanical Engineer (HVAC / MEP)
Location: Chaska, MN
Position Overview
A growing design-build mechanical contractor is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with 3\+ years of experience to join its engineering team in Chaska, MN. This role will support the design and delivery of HVAC and plumbing systems across a variety of commercial, industrial, and institutional projects.
The Mechanical Engineer will collaborate closely with project managers, field teams, and clients to develop practical, constructible solutions from concept through fabrication and installation. Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop HVAC and mechanical systems for commercial and industrial projects
- Perform heating and cooling load calculations and support system selection
- Develop ductwork and piping layouts using Revit and/or AutoCAD
- Assist with equipment selection (air handlers, chillers, boilers, pumps, etc.)
- Produce construction documents, fabrication drawings, and coordinated 3D models
- Coordinate with internal teams including project managers, field crews, estimators, and VDC
- Work with external stakeholders including architects, engineers, and subcontractors
- Support project scoping, budgeting, and preconstruction efforts
- Participate in BIM coordination and clash detection
- Conduct occasional site visits for surveys, coordination, and field support
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 3\+ years of experience in HVAC/MEP design
- Proficiency in Revit and/or AutoCAD
- Experience with load calculation software (TRACE, HAP, or similar)
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems and mechanical design principles
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Strong communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a design-build or contractor environment
- Knowledge of plumbing systems and hydronic systems
- Familiarity with Minnesota mechanical codes and ASHRAE standards
- EIT certification or working toward PE
