Job Description
We are conducting a confidential search for an experienced
Chief Digital \& Technology Officer (CDTO)
to lead the digital, technology, data, AI, and cybersecurity strategy of a major organization within the utilities industry.
This position is based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the company offers relocation assistance.
This executive will oversee a mission-critical, 24/7 technology environment and drive a large-scale transformation across enterprise IT, operational technology, grid systems, data platforms, artificial intelligence, digital customer experience, and critical infrastructure protection
Key Responsibilities
- Lead enterprise IT and OT strategy, operations, modernization, and integration.
- Ensure the availability and resilience of mission-critical utility systems, including SCADA, ADMS, OMS, EAM, CIS, and ERP platforms.
- Define and execute the organization’s digital transformation and grid modernization roadmap.
- Establish an enterprise data strategy encompassing governance, architecture, data quality, MDM, analytics, and real-time operational data.
- Deploy AI and machine learning solutions that improve outage prediction, asset maintenance, storm response, workforce productivity, and customer experience.
- Lead cloud, on-premise, field communications, disaster recovery, and business continuity capabilities.
- Oversee cybersecurity across IT and OT environments, aligned with NERC CIP, NIST, and critical infrastructure standards.
- Manage technology investments, strategic vendors, performance metrics, and regulatory requirements.
- Build and lead high-performing technology, data, engineering, cybersecurity, and AI teams
Required Qualifications
- 15\+ years of progressive leadership experience in technology, digital transformation, data, or related areas.
- Executive technology leadership experience within the utilities industry is required.
- Proven experience overseeing mission-critical, 24/7 operational environments.
- Strong knowledge of IT/OT integration and utility platforms such as SCADA, ADMS, OMS, EAM, and CIS.
- Demonstrated experience leading enterprise data, analytics, AI/ML, cloud, and cybersecurity initiatives.
- Experience managing large-scale technology transformation and modernization programs.
- Knowledge of regulated environments and critical infrastructure requirements.
- Strong executive communication, stakeholder management, and organizational leadership skills.
- Fluency in English required; intermediate Spanish is strongly preferred.
- Willingness to relocate to Puerto Rico. The company offers relocation assistance.
