Job Description

The Contracts Manager oversees the full lifecycle of contracts across UVA’s academic division, ensuring effective drafting, negotiation, execution, compliance, and performance management. This role provides leadership to the contracts team, collaborates with stakeholders across Grounds, and supports strategic initiatives that advance Procurement Services’ mission.

  • Lead team of contract and procurement specialist that will draft, negotiate, and manage contracts supporting sourcing activities, academic units, research, and administration.
  • Supervise and mentor contract professionals, balancing workload and supporting team development.
  • Lead initiatives to secure cost savings, revenue, rebates, and value‑based procurement outcomes.
  • Collaborate with faculty, research offices, and administrators to align contract terms with operational needs.
  • Monitor and improve contracting KPIs, using data insights to drive strategic decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, policy, and risk‑management requirements, including HSD protections.
  • Partner with Information Security and Compliance teams to uphold data‑protection standards.
  • Support research‑related contracts, including grants, funding terms, and IP considerations.
  • Support small and local businesses through enhanced terms and engagement strategies.
  • Oversee supplier performance and partner with sourcing teams to ensure service quality and contract adherence.
  • Promote continuous improvement through best practices, innovation, templates, accessibility, and sustainability.
  • Other duties as assigned

Key Qualifications / Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred (Business, Supply Chain, Finance, or related).
  • 4–5\+ years of procurement, sourcing, or contract‑management experience.
  • Demonstrated success in cost‑saving strategies and operational efficiency.
  • Experience leading high‑performing teams.
  • Expertise in legal and regulatory elements of contracting and risk mitigation.
  • Proficiency with contract‑management systems, analytics tools, and procurement technologies.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder‑engagement skills.

Compensation: $100k - $120k per year based on education, experience, and certifications, and there is an in-office expectation of 2 days per week.

This position will remain open until filled. This is an exempt level, benefited position. The University will perform background checks on all hires (if required) prior to employment. Minimum Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree required.

Experience: 4\+ years of relevant professional experience required. Additional relevant e xperience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Licensure: Project Management Professional (PMP/PMI) certification preferred.

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
