The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH), Public Health Division (PHD), Northwest Region provides population-based and clinical public health services to the counties of Bernalillo, Sandoval, Valencia, Torrance, McKinley, Cibola, and San Juan through a network of 16 Public Health Offices and mobile outreach services.

The Division delivers essential preventive and clinical services including but not limed to: immunizations, sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment, family planning, breast and cervical cancer screening, tuberculosis (TB) prevention and treatment, harm reduction and syringe services, hepatitis C testing and treatment, medications for opioid and alcohol use disorder (MOUD/MAUD), and maternal and child health services. These services are designed to reduce disease burden, improve access to care, and promote health equity¿particularly among rural, under resourced and Tribal communities.

The Northwest Region operates in close partnership with community providers, Tribal health systems, academic partners, and local organizations to strengthen the public health system and improve the health and well-being of all New Mexicans.

Why does the job exist?

To provide STD, Family planning, Hepatitis C, PREP, and MOUD services to patients in the metro area. This will decrease the prevalence of STDs, unplanned pregnancy, and substance abuse disorder issues in New Mexico.

How does it get done?

Provides patient care, including medical diagnosis, treatment, prescription of medication and therapies, patient counseling, and staff consultation within areaof specialization.

Performs women's health exams, including breast and pelvic exams.

Orders and interprets laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging, and other tests.

Provides education and training regarding medication and diagnosis to patients, family, staff, and other approved entities.

Refers patients to other providers or care settings for specialized care.

May provide clinical direction to nursing staff in providing healthcare or treatment to patients and residents.

Maintains accurate and timely medical records.

Accountable for all required documentation in accordance with medical policies, practices, and protocols.

Provides healthcare services, health education, and immunizations to public

health clients seeking care for infectious disease and/or related symptoms, family

planning services, or other related concerns.

May perform medical procedures within scope of practice.

Performs quality control activities to maintain clinic CLIA waiver as requested.

Participates in teams to provide consultation, education, and training to staff and external partners related to clinical services and public health interventions to improve health status of individuals and the community.

Minimum Qualification

Licensed by the New Mexico Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP), Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), or as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) by the New Mexico Department of Health.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Working Conditions

This position works primarily in clinical and office environments within public health offices but also provides services in community settings, correctional facilities, mobile clinics, and partner sites throughout the Northwest Region.

Working conditions include:

Extensive computer and electronic health record use.

Frequent interaction with patients, staff, and community partners.

Travel throughout the region to support clinical services, outreach, and meetings; occasional overnight travel may be required.

Potential exposure to communicable diseases.

Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds related to clinical or outreach activities.

The position requires flexibility, adaptability, and a commitment to serving diverse populations in a variety of clinical and community environments.
