R&D Technical Chemist

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Technical Chemist role based in Pontian. The Technical Chemist will design, develop, and optimize chemical formulations, with a focus on coatings and related applications. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and conducting laboratory experiments, analyzing test data, troubleshooting, and documenting methods and results in accordance with internal standards and regulatory requirements. The role involves supporting quality control activities, troubleshooting product or process issues, and collaborating with Production, QA, and R\&D to scale up and validate new formulations. The Technical Chemist will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, maintain laboratory equipment and safety practices, and prepare technical reports and presentations to support decision-making.

Qualifications

• Strong analytical skills to interpret experimental data, perform root-cause analysis, and support process optimization.
• Experience in experimental design, formulation development, and product or process improvement.
• Proficient laboratory skills, including safe handling of chemicals, operation of lab instruments, and accurate documentation of procedures and results.
• Technical knowledge of coatings or related chemical products, including formulation principles, performance testing, and application methods.
• Background in quality control, with ability to perform routine testing, monitor specifications, and support quality assurance systems.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
• Familiarity with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
• Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present technical findings clearly.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Prior experience in industrial coatings or polymer-based products is an advantage.
