Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Sr Principal Systems Engineer. This position is located in Bellevue, Nebraska and supports the Sentinel program.

What you’ll get to do:

As a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer from the SDS Systems Engineering Functional Homeroom, you will be expected to support large-scale, complex projects from inception to completion that span across functional organizations as a scrum master. Your daily mission is to enable high performing Scrum teams, uphold Agile best practices, and keep delivery flowing toward our business objectives. You will be expected to facilitate scrum ceremonies, maintain sprint backlogs, remove impediments, support/coach/mentor the team, track and report metrics, facilitate communication, and promote a culture of inspection \& adaptation.

Additionally, you will be expected to know, understand and leverage agile performance data - such as story-point velocity, sprint burndown, and cumulative-flow metrics - to populate and align with the program’s Earned Value Management (EVM) system, thereby providing transparent, data-driven insight into cost and schedule performance and enabling a proactive program.

As a member of the Modeling, Simulation and Analysis (MS\&A) Team, Systems Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) Segment, Sentinel Program, you will be expected to support:

  • Scrum Master duties
  • CI/CD – Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery Statements of Work

+ Maintain build pipelines for simulation models (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C\+\+), ensuring automatic compilation, unit-test execution, and artifact publishing

+ Write and update test scripts that run model verification and validation (V\&V) suites on every code commit

+ Monitor pipeline health (build failures, test flakiness) and triage issues with developers and test engineers

+ Implement version-control policies (branching strategy, pull-request reviews) that enforce model provenance and traceability

+ Configure automated metric collection (code coverage, execution time, simulation fidelity) and integrate results into dashboards for stakeholders

  • Automation Tools Development Statements of Work

+ Develop reusable tooling (shell/Python/PowerShell scripts, custom plugins) that automate routine modeling tasks such as data preprocessing, parameter sweeps, and result aggregation

+ Create wrapper utilities around existing simulation engines to enable headless execution and integration with CI pipelines

+ Design and maintain a centralized “tool-registry” (e.g., a JFrog Artifactory or internal package index) for versioned simulation libraries and analysis scripts

+ Build UI/CLI front-ends for non-technical engineers to trigger simulations, view status, and retrieve outputs without manual command entry

+ Document tool usage, installation, and troubleshooting in the team wiki and ensure alignment with cybersecurity and configuration-management standards

  • Technical Project Management Statements of Work

+ Draft and refine SOW sections that describe deliverables, acceptance criteria, and schedule for modeling-simulation work packages.

+ Participate in weekly integration reviews, providing status updates on model readiness, test coverage, and automation progress.

+ Track key performance indicators (e.g., simulation turnaround time, defect leakage) and report trends to program management.

+ Coordinate with cross-functional leads (systems engineers, test leads, software developers) to align simulation milestones with overall system-level test campaigns.

+ Maintain risk registers specific to model fidelity, tool dependencies, and CI/CD pipeline stability; propose mitigation actions and update the risk log regularly.

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance, at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline and 8 years of related experience; 6 years experience with a Master of Science degree; 4 year experience with a PhD
  • Demonstrated experience with Atlassian Suite (Confluence, Jira)
  • Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining CI/CD Pipelines
  • Prior experience as a Scrum Master in either: Engineering, Software, or IT/Cyber Operations
  • Prior experience as a SAFe Product Owner
  • Experience developing reusable tooling (shell/Python/PowerShell scripts, custom plugins) that automate routine tasks such as data preprocessing, parameter sweeps, and result aggregation
  • Must have knowledge of Scrum, Kanban, or scaling frameworks (SAFe, LeSS, Nexus, etc.)
  • Must have experience in Agile tools: JIRA, Confluence, MS Project, and MS Excel
  • Must have experience creating schedules and briefing stakeholders on progress
  • Must have experience leading Program Increment Planning, monitor status and briefing execution to plan
  • Excellent communication, conflict-resolution, and stakeholder-management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working within large DoW programs
  • Currently cleared to Sentinel Special Access Program
  • Demonstrated experience using agile derived metrics (such as story points) to integrate with a program’s Earned Value Management (EVM) system, enabling accurate cost schedule performance tracking and effective program control
  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) Scrum Master certified
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining CI pipelines for code bases
  • Demonstrated experience with Git-based workflows (GitLab, GitHub, Azure Repos) and automated merge-request validation.
