**Position Announcement**
The Technical Services Librarian plays a key leadership role in advancing library services and supporting student and faculty success at Utah Valley University. This position offers the opportunity to lead a dedicated team, shape technical services operations, and contribute to the stewardship and discoverability of library collections. Through professional cataloging, workflow development, and process improvement, the librarian helps ensure that resources are accessible, organized, and responsive to the evolving needs of the university community.
In addition to leading technical services, this role provides meaningful opportunities to engage directly with students and faculty through research support, information literacy instruction, collection development, and academic liaison work. Summary Of Responsibilities
- Department Leadership, Supervision, and Employee Development: Provide direct supervision and leadership for four full-time Technical Services employees. Establish priorities and expectations; delegate work; provide regular communication, coaching, feedback, and follow-up; evaluate performance; support professional development; and promote accountability. Foster a respectful, collaborative, and productive work environment, and address employee, workflow, and performance concerns in a timely and constructive manner.
- Technical Services Operations, Receiving, Cataloging, and Workflow Management: Plan, coordinate, and oversee receiving, materials processing, cataloging, bibliographic maintenance, authority control, and related Technical Services workflows. Perform professional cataloging work as needed, including original cataloging and resolution of complex bibliographic issues. Develop procedures, maintain quality-control practices, and collaborate with other departments to resolve issues and implement library priorities.
- Reference, Instruction, Collection Development, and Faculty Liaison: Provide professional reference and research assistance to students and faculty, participate in scheduled reference service, teach information literacy sessions, contribute to the development of instructional materials and content, review potential materials, and contribute to collection development, and serve as faculty liaison for assigned academic areas.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
A Master of Library Science (MLS) or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree from an ALA-accredited program is required, along with a minimum of two years of related professional library experience, including at least one year of supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional experience in an academic library.

- Knowledge of current technical services principles, practices, and workflows in academic libraries, including receiving, materials processing, cataloging, bibliographic maintenance, and authority control.
- Knowledge of cataloging standards and practices, including RDA, authority control, bibliographic maintenance, and original and copy cataloging.
- Knowledge of integrated library systems, bibliographic utilities, and related resource-management technologies.
- Knowledge of workflow analysis, quality control, process improvement, and implementation of changing standards and technologies.
- Knowledge of academic library reference, instruction, collection development, and liaison services.
