Payactiv is seeking a motivated Data Science Intern

to join our Finance team in Milpitas and support our mission of transforming how people experience financial wellness. This internship offers hands-on experience working with real datasets, building dashboards, and uncovering insights that directly impact our products and customers.

This role is open to both undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, Business Analytics, Finance, or a related quantitative field who want to develop practical analytics skills in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

What You Will Do…

• Assist with gathering, cleaning, and validating data from multiple sources to support analytics initiatives.
• Use SQL and Python to query and analyze datasets, identifying trends, anomalies, and opportunities for optimization.
• Help build dashboards and visualizations using Sigma Computing, Tableau, or other BI tools to enable stakeholders to make data-driven decisions.
• Support ad hoc reporting and data requests from product, marketing, operations, and customer teams.
• Partner with data engineers to learn about ETL processes and data pipelines, helping validate data integrity and quality.
• Contribute to performance tracking by helping define and monitor metrics for product adoption, customer success, and business growth.
• Document data processes, KPI definitions, and analytical findings to support a single source of truth across the company.
• Present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences in team meetings.

What You Need…

Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in one of the following fields:

• Data Science
• Statistics
• Computer Science
• Mathematics
• Economics
• Finance
• Business Analytics
• Or a related quantitative discipline

Additional qualifications:

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a curious, detail-oriented mindset.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Working knowledge of SQL.
• Familiarity with Python or R (preferred).
• Exposure to data visualization tools such as Sigma Computing, Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.

Nice to have

• Coursework or projects involving statistical analysis.
• Understanding of database structures and basic ETL concepts.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Snowflake or AWS.
• Exposure to machine learning concepts (AWS SageMaker or equivalent is a plus).
• Awareness of business metrics and KPIs in a SaaS, FinTech, or B2B context.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
