Job Description

About Us

Hello Clever is building the next generation of payments and commerce infrastructure by turning every transaction into growth for merchants and clearer value for consumers. We’re an AI-powered fintech operating across 22\+ markets, helping businesses move money in real time and convert payments into measurable outcomes like higher repeat rates, bigger baskets, and smarter customer engagement. Our platform combines local account-to-account rails, embedded rewards products, and powerful data intelligence through Clever AI so merchants can launch offers, optimize ROI, and scale faster through a single integration.

We’re also proud to be recognized on the global stage, including being named Australia’s fastest-growing fintech, listed in Forbes Asia’s Top 100, ranked in the AFR Fastest-Growing Companies, and selected for Inc. Magazine’s Best in Business.

The Role

Unlock your potential with Hello Clever. We're seeking a thoughtful, hands-on, and customer-obsessed Product Designer to turn complex payments, rewards, data, and operational workflows into clear, trusted, and useful product experiences. If you enjoy working from discovery through delivery, making ambiguity tangible, and partnering closely with Product and Engineering to ship high-quality work, we'd love to hear from you.

As a Product Designer at Hello Clever, you will design across our product ecosystem as priorities evolve. This may include merchant onboarding and dashboards, payment and settlement experiences, rewards and loyalty, consumer journeys, AI-assisted insights, reporting, integration workflows, and internal operational tools. You will work closely with Product, Engineering, Data, Growth, Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, Support, Risk, and Operations to understand problems, test ideas, and deliver experiences that are simple to adopt, reliable to use, and valuable to customers.

  • Position: Product Designer, full-time
  • Level: Mid-level
  • Location: New York City, New York
  • Working mode: Hybrid
  • Reporting to: Head of Product
  • Base salary: $150,000 to $200,000 USD per year

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-End Product Design: Lead design work from problem framing and discovery through user flows, prototypes, high-fidelity UI, handoff, launch, and iteration.
  • Customer and Business Understanding: Build a practical understanding of merchant, consumer, partner, and internal-team needs, then connect those needs to measurable product and business outcomes.
  • Research and Validation: Partner with Product to plan and conduct interviews, usability testing, journey mapping, prototype testing, and lightweight experiments. Combine qualitative insight with behavioral data, support signals, and operational feedback.
  • Interaction and Interface Design: Create clear information architecture, workflows, wireframes, prototypes, responsive interfaces, and detailed interaction states across mobile and web products.
  • Complex Workflow Simplification: Make payments, rewards, onboarding, reporting, configuration, reconciliation, and operational processes understandable without hiding important detail or risk.
  • Design Systems and Craft: Strengthen reusable patterns and components, with close attention to accessibility, content clarity, responsive behavior, empty states, error states, edge cases, and production quality.
  • AI-Assisted Experiences: Explore useful and trustworthy applications of AI that reduce friction, surface insight, or improve relevance for customers and internal teams.
  • Cross-Functional Delivery: Collaborate closely with product managers and engineers throughout delivery, respond to technical constraints, review implementation quality, and help teams make sound trade-offs.
  • Outcome Measurement: Define the intended behavior and success signals for design work, learn from what ships, and use evidence to improve the experience over time.
  • Trust and Operational Clarity: Design with care for privacy, consent, money movement, payment status, reward eligibility, settlement timing, disputes, support paths, and regulated fintech expectations.

You’re a Perfect Fit if You Have

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in product design, UX/UI design, interaction design, service design, or a closely related digital product role.
  • A portfolio showing end-to-end product work, design reasoning, interaction and visual craft, collaboration, and learning from shipped outcomes or realistic product constraints.
  • Experience designing customer-facing mobile or web products and confidence working on complex workflows, platforms, dashboards, admin tools, or operational experiences.
  • Strong capability in problem framing, user flows, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping, high-fidelity UI, usability testing, and developer handoff.
  • Sound interaction and visual design judgment, with care for hierarchy, accessibility, content, states, edge cases, and polished execution.
  • Experience working directly with product managers and engineers from discovery through delivery in a fast-moving product environment.
  • A practical research mindset and the ability to turn customer conversations, behavioral insight, data, and operational feedback into clear design decisions.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to explain design choices and trade-offs across customer value, business impact, technical feasibility, privacy, risk, and brand trust.
  • Comfort working across product areas and levels of fidelity, from early concepts to detailed production design.

Bonus Points if You Have

  • Experience in fintech, payments, banking, loyalty, rewards, ecommerce, marketplaces, SaaS, data products, or regulated technology.
  • Experience designing payment states, onboarding, checkout, payouts, settlements, reporting, reconciliation, configuration, or self-service support workflows.
  • Experience with AI-assisted interfaces, recommendations, personalization, insight products, or human-in-the-loop workflows.
  • Experience contributing to a design system, component library, product content standard, accessibility practice, or design QA process.
  • Familiarity with experimentation, behavioral analytics, funnel analysis, or measuring the effect of product design changes.
  • Experience working in a startup or scale-up where priorities evolve and designers help shape both the problem and the solution.

Why Join Us?

  • Meaningful Product Problems: Design products where clarity and trust directly affect how people move money, understand value, and operate their businesses.
