High School Academic Counselor

The High School Academic Counselor is responsible for ensuring that every student remains on track for high school graduation and postsecondary success. This role oversees key academic support systems, including graduation planning, credit monitoring, course scheduling, credit recovery, and academic intervention. The Academic Counselor proactively identifies students at risk of falling behind, coordinates timely supports, and works closely with students, families, teachers, and school leaders to improve academic outcomes. The position is accountable for the school's 9th Grade On-Track, Four-Year Graduation Rate, and Five-Year Graduation Rate performance metrics and plays a critical role in ensuring students meet all graduation requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Monitor each student's progress toward graduation, including credits earned, course completion, GPA, and graduation requirements
• Identify students who are off track for graduation and develop individualized plans to help them recover lost credits and graduate on time
• Coordinate and oversee credit recovery programs, including student enrollment, progress monitoring, and completion
• Support with scheduling students into courses each semester
• Monitor student performance throughout the year to identify students in need of academic intervention and coordinate appropriate supports before they fall significantly behind
• Track and support completion of community service hour requirements and other non-course graduation requirements
• Maintain accurate graduation audits and student academic records
• Collaborate with Academic Directors, teachers, special education staff, and the Culture Team to ensure coordinated academic support for students
• Meet regularly with students and families to review graduation progress, discuss academic goals, and communicate intervention plans
• Analyze academic data to identify trends and recommend strategies that improve student persistence, credit attainment, and graduation outcomes
• Ensure compliance with district and state graduation requirements, policies, and reporting expectations
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of School Programs or CEO
