About The Role

We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator to join our dynamic team in Tacoma, Washington. This pivotal role involves ensuring the stability, security, and optimal performance of our core database systems, including MSSQL, MySQL, and related technologies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database management, with a particular focus on supporting cloud-based solutions such as Microsoft Azure, especially Azure Synapse and data analytics platforms. The Database Administrator will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining database infrastructure that supports critical organizational functions. This role demands a proactive approach to troubleshooting, performance tuning, backup and recovery, and security management, with an emphasis on leveraging Azure services to facilitate data-driven decision-making across the enterprise.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a minimum of 3 to 7 years of experience in database administration, with proven expertise in managing SQL Server environments. On-call troubleshooting experience for production SQL Servers is essential, demonstrating the ability to respond swiftly to service outages or performance issues. Proficiency with diagnostic tools such as Extended Events, SQL Profiler, DMV queries, and data collection techniques is required. Candidates should have a solid understanding of database schema design, normalization, indexing strategies, and data modeling tools. Knowledge of backup strategies, disaster recovery planning, and data warehousing concepts is vital. Experience with ETL processes and tools is also preferred. Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, MySQL Database Administrator, or MongoDB Certified DBA are advantageous, though not mandatory. Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential to succeed in this role.

Responsibilities

• Design, install, and configure database systems supporting organizational needs, with a focus on MSSQL, MySQL, and Azure-based databases.
• Manage and optimize Azure Synapse pipelines, ensuring seamless data integration and analytics workflows.
• Coordinate with infrastructure teams to build and maintain Azure infrastructure supporting data demands.
• Troubleshoot and resolve data issues within the Enterprise BI platform, including Azure Synapse and Power BI.
• Implement and monitor backup strategies to meet Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and regularly test backups to ensure adherence to Recovery Time Objectives (RTO).
• Respond to and resolve SQL Server service outages promptly, including after-hours and weekends as needed.
• Configure and fine-tune SQL Server monitoring utilities to minimize false alarms and enhance reliability.
• Install, configure, and upgrade SQL Servers, ensuring high availability and security.
• Deploy database change scripts from vendors or internal teams after proper approvals, ensuring minimal disruption.
• Optimize database performance through server configuration, indexing, and query tuning strategies.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of the database environment, configurations, and procedures.
• Manage database capacity planning, storage management, and monitor growth trends to prevent issues before they arise.
• Proactively identify and resolve locking, blocking, and concurrency issues to ensure smooth database operations.
• Monitor database server health, create alerts for performance issues, and implement corrective actions.
• Oversee database security protocols, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry standards.
