Position Description:

Protingent Staffing has an exciting Direct Hire opportunity for an Mechanical Engineer with our client in Pasadena, California.

Job Responsibilities:

• Design and develop mechanical structures, mounts, and enclosures for high-precision laser and optical components
• Develop and validate mechanical tolerance stack-ups, ensuring proper alignment of laser optics and electronic integration
• Collaborate with electrical and optical engineers to integrate subsystems within mechanical constraints
• Generate CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation in accordance with ASME Y14\.5 and aerospace standards
• Support mechanical integration, alignment, and assembly procedures for the laser system
• Perform thermal, structural, and dynamic analyses (FEA)
• Select materials and surface treatments suitable for environmental constraints such as vacuum, thermal cycling, and radiation environments
• Participate in design reviews, DFM/DFA, and risk assessments
• Work with vendors and manufacturing teams on part fabrication, inspection, and procurement of hardware

Job Qualifications:

• Masters degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
• Proficiency in 3D CAD tools such as Solidworks
• Proficiency in FEA tools for thermal and mechanical simulation such as Comsol, ANSYS, or similar
• Knowledge of material selection for thermal, structural, and radiation performance
• Strong written and verbal communicator
• Good attention to detail
• Ability to multitask in a fast paced, changing environment
• Ability to problem solve under pressure
• Ability to build strong business relationships with various levels of customers
• Strong work ethic with the capacity to work independently as well as part of a team
• Additional Considerations:
• Experience with design for space or high reliability applications
• Proficiency with optical simulation (e.g. Zemax)
• Familiarity with MIL-STD, NASA/ESA, IEC laser safety, and/or CE requirements
• Experience with micro-optics

Job Details:

• Job Type: Direct Hire
• Location: Pasadena, California (Onsite)
• Salary Range: 120K-150K.
• ITAR obligations are associated with this role; U.S. Citizenship, U.S. legal permanent resident status, or protected person status under 8 U.S.C.
