About the Role
The Opower team at Oracle is looking for a User Experience Designer 2\. At Opower we design
experiences to help utility customers understand how they’re using energy and make better choices for
themselves, their bills, the grid, and even the planet.
In this role, you will create clear, useful, and accessible product experiences. In this role, you will work
on defined product or feature areas, partner with designers and cross-functional teammates, and turn
user needs into thoughtful design solutions.
This role is a good fit for a designer who has a strong foundation in user-centered design and is ready
to grow their ownership. You will contribute across the design process, from understanding user needs
and shaping problem statements to creating flows, wireframes, prototypes, and implementation-ready
design details.
What You Will Do
- Identify user needs and translate them into problem statements, personas, user goals, and design principles.
- Create user journeys, wireframes, information architecture, user flows, mockups, and prototypes to communicate the intended experience.
- Support user research and usability activities, including research planning, interviews, data collection, and synthesis.
- Use research findings, stakeholder input, product strategy, and business constraints to refine design solutions.
- Apply established design systems, style guides, patterns, templates, and components to create consistent experiences.
- Design with accessibility, usability, quality, and responsive behavior in mind.
- Partner with product, engineering, subject matter experts, and other designers from concept through delivery.
- Present concepts, rationale, tradeoffs, and recommendations to build shared understanding and alignment.
- Support implementation by preparing design specifications, reviewing built experiences, and helping resolve design quality issues.
- Track assigned work, manage timelines, respond to changing priorities, and escalate issues when needed.
- Participate in design reviews, give and receive feedback, and keep building your design craft
Responsibilities

- A portfolio that shows your process, design decisions, iteration, and final outcomes.
- Foundational skills in interaction design, information architecture, prototyping, and visual design.
- Familiarity with qualitative or quantitative research methods and usability testing.
- Ability to use evidence, feedback, and constraints to improve design work.
- Comfort working within design systems and established product patterns.
- Attention to accessibility, content clarity, visual hierarchy, and implementation detail.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to explain design choices and tradeoffs.
- A collaborative approach to working with product managers, engineers, researchers, and other designers.
- Curiosity, openness to feedback, and interest in learning new tools, practices, and industry patterns.
Qualifications
- A portfolio is required
- 5 years of experience (including years towards a relevant degree) in user-centered design
- Additional post graduate experience, or professional experience designing for behavior change, AI, or the utilities industry is a plus
What Success Looks Like
You will be successful in this role if you can contribute high-quality design work for defined product or
feature areas, use feedback and research to improve your designs, collaborate well with cross-
functional partners, and help ensure that shipped experiences meet user needs. Over time, you will
build deeper product knowledge, strengthen your design judgment, and grow toward greater
independence
