Systems Engineer – Cloud, SaaS \& AI Enablement (Education Sector)
Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled, collaborative
Systems Engineer
to play a pivotal role in modernizing and optimizing a cloud-first technology environment within an education-focused organization. This is a highly cross‑functional role that goes well beyond traditional infrastructure support. You will work closely with senior school leadership, Finance, Human Resources, and an external Educational Management Organization (EMO) to design, integrate, and maintain secure, scalable systems that materially improve operational efficiency and staff experience.
This role combines cloud architecture, systems integration, vendor management, and AI-driven innovation in a mission-driven environment where technology directly supports educational outcomes.
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this role.
Key Responsibilities
Vendor \& EMO Technical Partnership
- Serve as the primary technical liaison between internal leadership and an external EMO to ensure delivery of contracted technology services.
- Monitor EMO performance, including uptime, responsiveness, and resolution of production issues across student and administrative systems.
- Coordinate year-end system transitions, student device programs, and infrastructure refresh cycles.
- Ensure electronic security, web filtering, and student data protections meet required standards and organizational policies.
Cloud Infrastructure \& Systems Architecture
- Design, administer, and scale cloud-based infrastructure and SaaS environments (AWS, Azure, GCP, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace).
- Architect and maintain secure integrations between core platforms such as SIS, HRIS, ERP, and financial systems.
- Evaluate current systems and recommend cost-effective, scalable solutions aligned with long-term strategy.
AI Leadership \& Innovation
- Lead the evaluation and implementation of AI-enabled tools to improve administrative workflows, financial reporting, and HR processes.
- Partner with internal teams to drive ethical, responsible, and effective use of AI technologies.
- Stay current on AI and EdTech trends and proactively recommend solutions that enhance productivity and user experience.
- Establish practical guidelines and best practices for AI adoption across the organization.
Cross-Functional Enablement \& User Experience
- Act as a strategic technology partner to HR, Finance, and school administration.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and design systems that reduce friction in day-to-day work.
- Improve staff onboarding, offboarding, payroll data flows, and reporting through thoughtful system design.
- Provide advanced (tier‑3) support and targeted training to department leaders.
Systems Integration \& Automation
- Automate routine administrative and IT processes using scripting and integration platforms.
- Manage identity and access management (IAM), SSO, and secure authentication frameworks.
- Maintain clear, comprehensive documentation for systems, integrations, and automated workflows.
Security \& Compliance
- Implement and monitor advanced cloud security controls to protect sensitive HR, financial, and student data.
- Ensure compliance with applicable data privacy and education regulations.
- Proactively monitor logs, alerts, and system performance to identify and remediate risks.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience as a Cloud Systems Engineer, Cloud Administrator, or similar role.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms and enterprise SaaS environments.
- Experience managing vendor relationships and large external service providers.
- Demonstrated success working closely with non-technical teams to deliver practical, user-centered solutions.
- Experience with APIs, SSO/IAM (SAML, OAuth), and workflow automation.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical complexity into actionable outcomes.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-moving, collaborative environment.
- Ability to successfully pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
- Experience integrating HRIS, ERP, payroll, or financial systems (e.g., Paycom, Zoho, or similar platforms).
- Prior experience supporting technology in an education or K–12 environment.
- Exposure to AI tools deployed in enterprise or operational settings.
Why This Role Matters
- This position has a direct impact on how educators and administrators work every day. You’ll shape the systems that support learning, safeguard data, and bring modern cloud and AI capabilities into a mission-driven organization—without being siloed in traditional IT.
Benefits - Medical Dental, Vision, Retirement plan, Generous PTO
